👕 LET’S TALK DTG PRINTING! 🖨️
A lot of people see a shirt being printed and don’t realize just how cool the process actually is. So we wanted to show you a little behind-the-scenes look at what’s happening when we print a shirt using DTG (Direct-to-Garment).
In this video, you’re watching our printer actually spray the ink directly onto the shirt, building the design layer by layer. There’s no transfer being pressed onto the garment — the ink is being printed directly into the fabric.
So, why do we love DTG so much?
✨ INCREDIBLE DETAIL — DTG can reproduce small details, fine lines, shading, gradients, photographs, and complex artwork that can be difficult to achieve with traditional screen printing.
🎨 UNLIMITED COLORS — Instead of having to separate artwork into individual screen colors, DTG allows us to print full-color designs without charging by the number of colors.
👕 SOFT HAND FEEL — Because the ink is printed directly onto the garment, the finished design can have a much softer, more natural feel than a thick layer of ink sitting on top of the shirt.
📸 PHOTOS & COMPLEX ARTWORK — DTG is especially awesome for portraits, memorial shirts, detailed graphics, realistic artwork, and designs with lots of color variation.
♻️ LESS WASTE — Traditional screen printing requires screens, setup, ink preparation, and cleanup for each job. DTG is a much more streamlined digital process, which makes it ideal for smaller orders and one-off custom pieces.
⚡ NO HUGE SETUPS — Since everything is digitally printed, we can go from your artwork to a finished shirt without creating a separate screen for every color in your design.
🧵 PRINTS WITH THE SHIRT — NOT JUST ON IT — With properly prepared garments and the right curing process, DTG ink becomes part of the fabric rather than simply being a plastic-like layer sitting on top.
DTG vs. SCREEN PRINTING
Screen printing is still an excellent printing method, especially for large quantities of simple designs. It has been around for decades for a reason!
But DTG really shines when you’re looking for photorealistic images, lots of colors, intricate details, gradients, personalization, or smaller quantities.
Think of it this way:
Screen printing: Great for high-volume production and bold, simple graphics.
DTG: Great for detailed, full-color artwork and highly customized shirts.
