Been laying track for phase 2 of our 7’x14’ layout. Features a #6 double crossover and several #6 curved turnouts and flex track from Walther’s. Code 83 for a more realistic appearance. First time to use Walther’s Code 83 track. Reminds us of the old Shinohara track that was popular in the 1980s. We currently have the track laid and pinned with track pins prior to being nailed down. Waiting on two pieces of Atlas 3” 22r curve sections for the two open sections coming off of of curved turnouts from the yard. Next, to power each section and control each block of track before permanently mounting the track to the sub roadbed. Used sheet cork approximately 3/16” (0.09mm) for the underlayment from Hobby Lobby.

A different twist…

Something different than we usually post. Here we been “working on the railroad, all the day is long…”
When you get bored with the same-old, same-loop, it’s time to make some changes.

Working at putting in a switchback and staging loop separate (for the time being) from the continuous double loop track mainline. Using Walther’s Code 83 track with a #6 double crossover and several #6 and #8 curved turnouts to make this happen. All continuous tracks are code 83 flex track.

Using sheet cork about 3/32” (.09”) thick, cut using a template and glued down with carpenter’s glue and allow to setup overnight. Before finishing, all joints are sanded to assure a smooth transition from one seam to the next. A blend of camouflage paints are used to simulate the “dirt work” and seal the cork.
