Still true 🎣 Don’t ever think you have the fish at Fall River (or anywhere) figured out.
The fly that hooked 8 fish last time you were out now becomes totally ignored.

My basic rule of thumb is move the indicator up or down, add weight or take off weight. Try to get the fly right in front of the fish. Nothing working? Well, it’s time to change flies.

Once I get into the fly changing mode, it’s usually ten to twelve casts and I change again. Sometimes I will find a fly they will eat, sometimes not.

If I see someone catching fish I will usually ask, “what are they eating?” Most of the time the fisherman I see will show me the fly that’s working. I usually have something close, but if not, then I head home and sit down at the vise and re-create the fly.

That’s what I love about fly fishing; it’s never the same. It’s a new mystery every day.

🎣 True story. The day did not start out great.
I forgot to lock the ball hitch and the boat popped off and was only attached to the truck by the chains. Made it to Lava Lake and the boat motor started smoking, I think the impeller is giving it up. Then the wind became an issue and we got blown into the reeds. My little electric motor just does not do well in the wind unfortunately. However, I did manage to catch this nice 21 inch Rainbow on a small green Copper John under a Leech. Lava Lake has been producing nice fish all spring. Give it a try.

It happened again yesterday. This works like a charm!

It happened today for the second time this year, a fishhook dug deep into my finger. Thankfully, I knew what to do. #1 works very well. I’ve never tried #2 and really don’t want to. 🤠

The hottest fly I know on East Lake right now. I’m busy tying more of these tiny Midge Pupas. It always surprises people to see huge trout being caught on these. Landed 19 large Brown Trout today, at East Lake.
