It's been a few days since the horrific accident and there are some updates that I'll share with you all.
We are still sore, beaten, broken and bruised, but we are healing ever so slowly. The older we get, the more we realize that we don't heal as quickly as before, so that's kinda frustrating. But, slow progress is still progress and we thank God to be able to progress!
Barb received good news in that she will not need surgery on her right elbow. She has started PT and also has exercises for home. The cast is removed and she has a mobility brace that looks very Borg-like. So, I have jokingly dubbed her 5 of 6, as she was the 5th child out of her 6 siblings. (Yes, put that geek away, Tim)
Barb will be getting an MRI next week for the repair of her T12 vertebrae. Our neurosurgeon will repair thr two fractures by injecting a biological cement that sets up very quickly. As a result, she will be healed and can remove the back brace. That will be excellent!
As for me, we have seen my primary care doctor and was informed that I have 4 small compression fractures in my back. They are in T2, T3, T12, and L1. I was told there is nothing that can be done surgically and they will have to heal on there own. Expected time frame...3 months. Restricted to 15 lbs lifting. The fractures may be small, but they still hurt. Just gonna take time to heal.
My sternum pain is better daily. The 600 lb gorilla that was on my chest has gone on a diet and is down to 400 lbs now.
My left leg impacted the fuse panel and lower dash in the accident. My leg shorted across the terminals and gave me a nice little electrical burn with a blister. The impact bent the dash some, and I'm shocked it didn't break my leg. This all left a huge goose egg just below my knee and some colorful severe bruising. My daughter calls it Zombie skin. The bruising changes all kinds of pretty colors daily, but the doctor said that means it's healing.
The cuts on my head thay needed stitches are nearly healed. Had the stitches removed and thay made it much better and less itchy.
Our daughters, Melissa and Kimberly are taking turns staying with us to help with our daily activities. We are so thankful to have such wonderful, strong and caring women (yes, not little girls anymore) in our life. They are truly a blessing.
Last, I'd like to thank everyone for their prayers, calls, texts, emails and visits! It warms our hearts to know that so many care and are concerned about our well being. Thank you all!
