Is your glaze looking a little too watery? Here’s what to do! ⬇️
Specific gravity is a quick way to measure how dense your liquid glaze is compared to water. At FIVE Glaze, we recommend aiming for 1.4–1.5 for consistent coverage and firing results.
So, what happens if your specific gravity is too low?
💧 Too low = too much water. Your glaze may go on thin, look streaky, or not give you the coverage you’re after.
The fix: let the glaze settle overnight and then use a sponge to remove the top layer of water. Then retest specific gravity and adjust, thinning out glaze as needed.
