Mid-week start on the next order: a tunable Delrin high D whistle with engraved stainless steel fittings.

Have all the stainless fittings cut out and rough polished and the Delrin rods cut out to length and bored into tubes. Will be getting all the step cuts for the fittings done next and then can move on to the mill work for the windway and ramp and toneholes.

Wednesday update for the tunable Delrin low D and high C/D whistles set:

Have the Low D mostly finished, just have to turn a plug to fit and then get the fipple staked down to cut the mouthpiece beak on it. Will be moving on to the two tunable high whistles after that.

With the bent Bass A head joints on the back burner until new tooling comes I moved on to the next order in the queue: a set of three tunable Delrin whistles in High D, High C, and Low D.

Beginning with the Low D: have the Delrin rods cut to length and bored out, and all the brass fittings cut out to length. Will be getting the steps and tuning slide cut in for the fittings next and can start on milling the windway after that.

So started up work on the new angled Bass whistle headpiece, had some mixed results using the purchased pvc elbows.

Unfortunately as you can see in the one picture the inside of the elbow opens considerably larger than the bore of the sch80 pipe. This ended up resulting in the pitch of the notes getting substantially more flat as you progressed up the scale.

I tried a few things, including angled brass inserts to close up the inside gap, and even cutting tapers to enlarge the ends but both yielded tuning results that weren't satisfactory.

A last thing I tried was heating and bending an old scrap head piece, and tgat actually shows some promise, so have some better bending tools coming to fit this size and should be able to continue the experiment in a week or so when those come in.
