🇺🇸✨ Did you know Lancaster was once the capital of the United States — for one day?

On September 27, 1777, the Continental Congress met in Lancaster while fleeing British forces during the Revolutionary War, briefly making Lancaster the nation’s capital. 🏛️

Lancaster’s importance didn’t end there. By 1789, the city was even proposed as a possible permanent U.S. capital. Revolutionary War officer and Lancaster leader General Edward Hand submitted a plan for a federal district centered around Lancaster, highlighting the city’s strong location, surrounding farmland, skilled tradespeople, and reputation as a welcoming crossroads.

Lancaster County has long been shaped by its markets, farms, workshops, churches, neighborhoods, and generations of people bringing together old traditions and new ideas. ❤️🌾

🌾 Take home a little piece of the view! Our new penny press machine features an AmishView design inspired by the peaceful countryside guests can see right outside the windows.

The design includes rolling Lancaster County fields and a traditional one-room Amish schoolhouse in the distance. These simple schoolhouses are still used by many Amish communities, where children of different grade levels learn together in one classroom. 📚✨

🏡 Our new penny press machine is up and running, and one of the new designs celebrates the historic barn at Plain & Fancy Farm!

For decades, the barn has been at the heart of the property. Plain & Fancy Restaurant opened in 1960 serving family-style meals, and the Plain & Fancy Country Store followed in 1965. After the Strauss family purchased the property in 1993, the barn was expanded in 1996. Today, it is home to Smokehouse at Plain & Fancy Farm and The Barn & Hearth Shop.
