A Personal Note From Me 💜
It has come to my attention that a shopper from our sale Friday shared that an interaction with me made her feel singled out and judged. Because her post was anonymous and shared in a group I'm not a member of, I have no way to contact her personally, so I sincerely hope this reaches her.
First and most importantly, I am truly sorry that I made her feel judged. I did try to apologize to her before she left Friday, but after having time to reflect on the interaction, I want to say it again.
Exquisite has an established no large bags policy. It is included in our shopping terms and those terms are posted at the entrance of our sales. However, I recognize that our terms are lengthy and someone could easily enter without noticing that particular policy.
I also want to clarify one misunderstanding—not to diminish her experience, but because it was part of what happened. Our final reservation appointments began at 1:00, with open shopping beginning at 2:00. When she arrived around 1:45, the other shoppers inside were finishing their reservation shopping. That was what I was trying to explain to her at the time.
But ultimately, this isn't about proving who was right. My interaction with her made her feel as though I had judged her based on her appearance, and that is something I have taken to heart. I never want someone walking into one of our sales to feel unwelcome because of how they look.
In fact, immediately after our interaction, I realized that although our bag policy was in our posted terms, it wasn't prominent enough. I made and posted a separate sign that same day stating that large purses and personal tote bags are not permitted. We will continue to display that policy separately and clearly so everyone receives the same information.
We are entrusted with our clients' homes and belongings, so there will always be policies we need to enforce. But those policies should be communicated and applied in a way that treats every person who walks through our doors with respect.
To the shopper who posted this: I am sincerely sorry that I made you feel judged. I wish our interaction had gone differently, and if this reaches you, I hope you will accept my apology.
