I’m especially thankful for the lives that fill my little shop and the opportunity to steward a space that points to Jesus, His truth, beauty, and goodness!

The store has been completely flipped for fall and the shelves hold so many new treasures to help your fall feel collected, cozy, and curated. 🍂☕️📖

Years ago, my principal asked each of us to bring in a picture of ourselves, at the same age of children we were currently teaching, to keep in the front foyer of the school in place of our professional pictures. For four years, I passed that picture of nine year old Courtney in the middle of my work day as I dropped my students off at music or art class. It became my habit to look at that picture and think of a quote that I first heard from Annie F. Downs on her podcast years before, “Be someone your nine year old self would be proud of.” Every day, I passed that picture and was reenergized for the task at hand as I reminded myself that nine year old Courtney would have wanted to become a teacher that saw children as image bearers of God: with big dreams and big futures, more than their talkative and energetic little bodies, more than a lack of impulse control, more than undiagnosed ADHD, but as people who could impact our world to the glory of God and the good of others if they could begin to see themselves as a child worthy of a good hope and good future. Nine year old Courtney needed that and was blessed by many people who saw beyond imperfections to focus on talents and all that could be. That picture hangs in my classroom now because I want that reminder every day. Children need advocates who see themselves where they are and love them to the place they need to be. Squirrely (still) sidenote: Also, when I passed that picture, I used to sing, “This is your life, are you who you wanna be?” But I digress. This week, I returned to a public education classroom in that same school after a brief detour in elementary administration and teaching in a private school. The past two years have been spent well. But also? It’s so good to be home, back to teaching in a public school classroom in the town I love most. If I spend my adult life doing one thing, I hope it is spent loving people: my students, their families, my own children, my own family. It’s a true gift to spend my days putting books in the hands of children, teaching executive functioning skills, nurturing the writing lives of young authors, and inspiring the pursuit of lifelong learning. My heart is full.

The most magical children’s books are finally in stock at Let Every Heart. I’ve loved books by Story Orchestra for years and I’m so happy to introduce them to fellow book lovers. These are the sweetest gift for children because who doesn’t love a book that makes sound? These books gently introduce children to classical music from Swan Lake, Carnival of Animals, and Sleeping Beauty. I’ve supplied a few types: Musical books, I Can Play Piano books, and Musical Puzzles. Yes, you read that correctly. These puzzles actually make music. I’m excited about the possibilities for these books once they find their way to little hands. May we always seek to give children the most lovely, most honorable, most beautiful books. I think these fit the bill nicely.
