It just so happens that this type of cacao also tastes great and has a complex flavor profile. The active compound in cacao isn't caffeine. It's theobromine — a methylxanthine that shares a molecular family with caffeine but behaves nothing like it.
Caffeine peaks in an hour and crashes shortly after. Theobromine — what's actually in cacao — sustains for 4-6 hours without the cortisol spike, without the vessel constriction, without the bedtime tax.
Most people who "tried cacao and didn't feel anything" were comparing it to coffee's hijack. That's not what cacao does. It's a different tool.
