For two months, eight full-time employees of Peninsula Fire Protection District have had PERS contributions deducted from our paychecks—even though our employee contributions were supposed to be fully paid by the District.
Each employee is now owed more than $1,000.
Peninsula Fire Protection District bears responsibility for honoring its commitments to its employees. Plumas County also needs to answer for its role because the County processes our payroll. Passing responsibility back and forth does not put the missing money back into our accounts.
Now we’re being told that repayment may come as a lump sum subject to taxes—potentially leaving employees to absorb the consequences of a payroll problem we did not create.
We showed up. We worked our shifts. We served the community. We should not have to fight to receive the compensation we were promised.
Peninsula Fire Protection District and Plumas County: stop pointing fingers, correct the payroll records, return every dollar owed, and make your employees whole.
