These Celosia’s are just so gorgeous!!!! At $10.99, the price is too!!!

Full sun lovers, they will like to be kept moist, but not soggy! If you are planting in pots, use the Coco Loco potting soil by Fox Farms. It is so healthy for your plants and will allow your Celosia to keep moist while still draining well!!!
Rather than using chemicals to boost your plant’s health, they use natural fertilizers such as bat guano and worm castings.

Come on by for our amazing SummerWeen colorful plants and brighten up your end-of-summer garden!!!!

Have hanging baskets? Get pruning shears!!!
This is a great time to freshen up those hanging baskets plants. It might seem a little drastic, but those beautiful plants have been working hard to produce new growth and thrive in the summer heat. I prune my hanging baskets almost to the rim of my pot! This helps your plants put more energy back into growing healthier, bushier stems and more blooms!

Trim to give it a balanced look, and then water it deeply and slowly when you are done! Also, be sure to rotate your baskets weekly! Trying to reach and rotate our baskets in the garden center is great exercise for me!!!!

So give your baskets a spa day, and get out those pruning shears!!!

Mulch, mulch and mulch some more!!!

Mulch has some pretty good do’s and a few cautions!

🪴Helps to retain moisture and lessen evaporation in high heat - reduces the amount needed to water!
* Make sure you purchase mulch that is mold and diseased free. Free mulch is awesome - just avoid it if you see powdery mildew or bugs!

🪴Suppresses weeds - always a win!!!!

🪴prevents erosion as it binds and stabilizes the soil!! Great way to reduce erosion with upcoming El Niño rains!

🪴Adds organic matter for healthy plants.
* Limit mulch to about 2 inches deep so you don’t suffocate your plants by preventing good air circulation.

Keep mulch away from your plant stems and leaves and use aged mulch - then you are pretty good to go!!! We have mulch and we love to help!!!

The caterpillars are well fed now and we are excited for the next part of their journey. Stay tuned - we have all been quite intrigued and love the huge knowledge base out there!!!! Thanks for sharing.

These colors are so gorgeous!!!!!! Our Inferno Coleus is just the perfect fall/Halloween color!!!

Looking for stunning color, low maintenance and great versatility in a plant? Coleus is your answer!!!! It can be a challenge to keep plants happy in the Garden Center - they all want to find their forever home! Our Coleus just keeps growing, looking healthy, and having eye catching foliage.

Part sun, part shade, not fussy about soil, indoors or outdoors - set yourself up for success with one of our Coleus plants!! Keep the soil consistently moist, but let the top one inch get dry between watering. While this is the time to mulch, mulch, and use more mulch…be sure to keep mulch away from the stems and leaves.

Come on in to our Oceanside ACE Garden center - we are always happy to help!!!! And check out how much our caterpillars are growing!!! I’m off to find more Rue plants right now 😀🪴

Wow! We have Giant Swallowtail Caterpillars in our Garden Canter. We aren’t going to sell them - we would rather just let them do their thing while we all enjoy watching!!!

I see quite a few Monarch Butterflies in the Garden Center - they certainly have their favorite flowers, but I have never seen Giant Swallowtail butterflies!

These guys landed themselves on our Rue plants. I have also had customers order dill plants, specifically for the Swallowtail butterflies! They are voracious eaters, destroying any plant they are on. I read that they like citrus, so I am surprised they didn’t plunk down on our lemon balm.

🦋The eggs are round and orange or yellowish in color. They can be damaging to a citrus farm!
🦋Once the caterpillar emerges, they are voracious eaters and will molt several times!
🦋Once it is large enough it will enter the pupa stage and form its chrysalis- which should be green or brown
🦋Once ready, an adult butterfly will emerge!! Some of their favorite flowers for nectar are lantana, bougainvillea, and azaleas!
🦋According to one source, they are the largest butterfly in North America!!!!

So come on down to our butterfly hatchery, I mean Garden Center, and see what we are up to!!!
