This years soybean plot shows a good display of Merschman Seeds soybean characteristics. We planted the Enlist E3 lineup from a 3.6 Kennedy up to a 4.9 Miami. Yesterday we pulled 2 plants per variety growing side by side from the middle of the planter pass. Plant height and node length increased dramatically as the maturities increased. Stand out varieties seem to be Kennedy and Coolidge 3.6 maturity, Norfolk 4.3 maturity, Atlanta 4.5 maturity, Memphis 4.6 maturity and the Dallas 4.8 maturity. However, looks can be very deceiving! Planted June 9th in Carbondale, IL. 15 inch rows 170,000 population. Stoy Silt Loam soil type

MERSCHMAN SEEDS UNVEILS NEWEST LABELED HERBICIDE OPTION FOR LIBERTYLINK® GT27® SOYBEANS
December 9, 2021

WEST POINT, IA – Merschman Seeds unveils the newest labeled herbicide option for LibertyLink® GT27® soybeans, mesotrione. Mesotrione is now the second HPPD inhibitor labeled for use in conjunction with LibertyLink GT27 soybeans. UPL also recently released a mesotrione-based chemistry, named Motif, that is approved for use with LibertyLink GT27 soybeans.
About Motif
Motif offers broad-spectrum w**d control coupled with powerful, long-lasting residual control for season-long protection. Motif can be used as an effective site of action before or at planting to ensure optimal w**d efficacy. Motif can be combined with additional sites of action, including Metricor or Tricor (metribuzin) and/or Moccasin or Moccasin II Plus brand S-metolachlor, for even more robust w**d control against problematic glyphosate-, triazine-, PPO- and ALS-resistant w**ds.
UPL Marketing Manager Tom Mudd notes, “Weed scientists are strongly recommending multiple effective sites of action before or at planting to ensure optimal w**d efficacy and w**d resistance management — and to relieve the pressure on limited post-emergence options. Motif, when combined with additional sites of action, can be a powerful part of a soybean w**d control program.”
Motif is labeled for use with LibertyLink GT27 soybeans nearly everywhere that soybeans are grown in the U.S. Read the Motif label here.
Advantages of Merschman Seeds LibertyLink GT27 Soybeans
Merschman Seeds offers industry-leading LibertyLink GT27 soybeans with high-yielding, elite genetics that include a neighbor-friendly herbicide-tolerant trait stack that features tolerance to three unique sites of action: glyphosate (pre or post), Liberty® (pre or post) plus Group 27/HPPD inhibitor tolerance to isoxaflutole (pre only, where labeled in limited areas) and mesotrione (pre only).
Farmers looking for neighbor-friendly soybeans that offer maximum control of resistant w**ds, extended early-season w**d control, non-volatile chemistries, and an ultra-low use rate, take a look at our Merschman Seeds LibertyLink GT27 soybeans. You can find more information in our Product Guide and on our website.

As the growing season closes out we are starting to see soybeans yellow and drop leaves. However, in some fields this is happening prematurely due to Dectes Stem Borers. As adult beetles lay eggs July-August, hatched larvae begin looking for overwintering sites in the stems of w**ds such as Ragw**d, Cocklebur, and soybeans. We urge growers to walk fields that are turning to check the lower third of plants for these larvae and consider management plans this fall on ground intended for soybeans again next year. The link below goes into more detail on the lifecycle of Dectes Stem Borer

December beans have weathered frost and rather unfavorable growing conditions. Current stand count is 50-70k with a few stragglers still pushing through. The first trifoliate of emerged plants appear healthy so we will let them grow for a few more weeks before a chemical application is made(and to keep them hidden from deer). We will keep everyone updated every few weeks through the growing season so stay tuned!
