🍎 Our favorite duo is back at the farm!🎶

After spending the summer bringing music, movement, and sensory play together, Music with Mrs. H + Silly Little Lemons Sensory Play are teaming up again for a fall series at Hidden Creek Family Farm of Taylorsville!

And we’re kicking things off with APPLES.🍏🍎

We love this collaboration because the two experiences fit together so naturally. First, little ones get to sing, move, dance, and play with Music with Mrs. H — then they get to slow down, get their hands messy, and explore an apple-themed sensory invitation created by Silly Little Lemons.

One morning. Two favorite ways to play. And a whole lot of fall fun at the farm. 🌿

I talk a lot about what sensory play gives to children — the opportunity to explore, create, imagine, and learn through play. The little moments of childhood that happen around a tray are a huge part of why I do this.

But I don’t talk as much about what creating these invitations gives to me.

This season of motherhood has been challenging. I’m a mom of three, I solo parent most days, and there are a lot of moments where life feels loud and overwhelming.

Somewhere along the way, I realized that creating has become more than something I do for my business.

It’s something I need.

Painting little pieces. Mixing a base. Arranging a tray. Taking an idea that has been living in my head and turning it into something I can actually hold.

It gives my hands something to do.
It brings beauty into a chaotic life.
It quiets some of the mental noise.

And then, after all of that, I get to watch little hands explore something I made.

I make sensory play for children, but I’ve learned that the creative process is a gift to me, too.

Maybe that’s part of why this business has become so meaningful to me. 🤍

A few little moments from another Messy Monday 🍂

There’s something about seeing these setups go from an idea in my head, to trays on the tables, to little hands completely making them their own that never gets old.

Today we dug for pumpkins, squished and painted, scooped pumpkin guts, explored our pumpkin patch, and even found some time for a little puzzle solving together.

And my favorite part? Getting to watch my own kids right alongside all of yours. 🤎

Thank you to everyone who spent your Monday morning with us. These little mornings are becoming such a sweet part of our week, and I’m so grateful to be building this community with you.

Getting to bring something I already love doing with my own kids into a space where other families can enjoy it too is truly something really special.

Messy Mondays have quickly become one of my favorite weekly routines — watching little hands dig in, letting kids explore without worrying about making a mess, and seeing them connect with each other along the way… chef’s kiss.

And yes, my kids are right there in the middle of it all. 🤎

This is the kind of childhood I want for them, and the kind of community I hope to keep creating through Silly Little Lemons.

A little messy. A little slower. And full of meaningful play.

We’ll be back next Monday for an apple-filled morning with apple pie moon sand, apple stamping, and an apple pie-making sensory invitation. 🍎

Introducing our Pumpkin Patch Mini Kit — inspired by the sensory tray we’ll be exploring at Messy Monday tomorrow!

This premium mini kit is filled with hand-painted details and fall-inspired textures for little hands to scoop, gather, sort, and explore:
• Fine egg noodle sensory base
• Hand-painted fall pasta with pumpkins + leaves
• Hand-painted zucca pasta pumpkins
• Mini acrylic pumpkins

🎃 Messy Monday: Pumpkin Squish & Smash

A little behind the scenes of getting next week’s Messy Monday ready... and this pumpkin patch might be one of my favorite setups yet.

Join us Monday, September 14th at Hidden Creek Family Farm of Taylorsville for a morning of hands-on fall play made especially for little ones.

We’ll be exploring three different pumpkin-themed play experiences:
🎃 Pumpkin Squish & Smash — real
pumpkins, pumpkin guts, seeds, scooping, pouring, squishing and plenty of messy investigating
🎃 Pumpkin Patch Sensory Tray— pumpkins, natural loose parts and tools for scooping, collecting, sorting, transferring and imaginative play
🎃 Pumpkin Squish Painting — a mess-free process art activity where little hands can squish, press and spread paint to create their own pumpkin artwork

All the messy, open-ended play we love, with a little bit of fall magic mixed in.

One of our favorite birthday traditions is stopping by the bookstore instead of purchasing new toys that will get played with for a few minutes and inevitably forgotten.

Each of our kids get to pick out a book or two, and I usually find a few to bring home for our little library or preschool shelf.

This year that meant a few truck books for my son, some fancy princess stories for my oldest, and touch-and-feel books for our one year old. I found great books too like In My Heart to add to our little library to learn about emotions, Dear Girl for our daughters to reflect on throughout the years, and Barn in Fall for our preschool learning shelf.

I love having books be part of our kids’ birthdays. They each get to choose something they love, we bring it home, and then it becomes part of our everyday lite. We read them together, find favorites, and eventually they become part of the shelves we’ve collected over the years.

It’s a simple tradition, but it’s one I really hope we keep.

A tiny woodland for little explorers 🍁 🦊

This taste-safe sensory base is made with cocoa pebbles (so even our littlest friends can explore safely, then layered with natural textures, woodland animals, mushrooms, leaves, wood slices, and little hiding spots to discover.

I love creating sensory invitations that give children room to scoop, search, collect, imagine, and decide where their play takes them.

This was one of the invitations from our very first Messy Monday at Hidden Creek Family Farm, and it was such a joy watching the children turn this little forest into their own world. 🍂 🍄

Our first Messy Monday was such a sweet way to start our fall mornings at the farm 🍁 🍃

There was scooping, pouring, mixing, painting, collecting, and plenty of little hands figuring things out as they played.

The trays may be what we set out, but the best part is seeing where the children take the invitation. Every child explores a little differently, and that’s what makes open-ended play so special.

Messy play gives children space to experiment, make choices, test ideas, use their senses, and learn through doing. There doesn’t have to be one right way to play for meaningful learning to happen.

I’m already looking forward to next Monday when we’ll be getting messy with pumpkins. 🎃

Our first Messy Monday at Hidden Creek Family Farm of Taylorsville was SO MUCH FUN! 🍂

Our two sensory trays gave little hands so many opportunities to explore, create, scoop, pour, and play. My favorite part was watching all of the little artists create their own leaf paintings using shaped sponges and real leaves we foraged.
