For the first time ever at Handworks we will have our La Forge Royale Carver's Vise available for sale. $495. And for the entire event everything we sell will be 10% off at the event. There's only a limited amount of these and it's not a regular product, so it's usually difficult to get these. There are three lumber vendors at handworks this year so you should be able to pick up some really sweet stock to build one with: Timber and Tools in the Amana furniture shop building, Horizon Wood Products from Pennsylvania and Alexander Brothers, both in the Greenwood Barn.

Don't forget to check out our La Forge Royale museum where we have other vices from La Forge Royale on display in the Benchcrafted space.

We did it! Just finished our third run of the incredible Carver's vise based on the prototype from La Forge Royale, Paris. In the nick of time too! This is our most complex vise, so you get a pretty incredible package when you buy one of these. We are completely swamped getting ready for Handworks in exactly two weeks so these won't be on the website until after Handworks, if we even have any left (we should) but you need to get yourself to Amana and grab one. Today we share pics of some of the tooling we use to make our products.

This is both sides of a matchplate that holds the pattern for our Glide C Leg Vise handwheel. You might be surprised that we don't actually fully machine our C series castings to make our M series, fully machined handwheels. Each wheel has its own distinct pattern and casting. And these wheels are so large that we can only fit one on each match plate. That means for every wheel we cast and manufacture we make a separate mold for every wheel. And that mold is destroyed for every wheel that's cast.

This pattern has been used to make thousands of handwheels for the past 14 years!
