Hey guys, it’s MiKayla speaking today—not The Feral Fairy.
This is a post I’ve contemplated even writing, but I think everyone deserves full honesty, even in a world built around a little bit of magic.
I haven’t been posting nearly as much lately, and the truth is my mental health took a pretty dramatic downward spiral. I’m doing a lot better now, and I’ll be returning to my human job this week, but the last few weeks forced me to take a hard look at how I got here.
And really, it came down to overworking myself.
The Feral Fairy was created as an escape from reality. It was somewhere I could disappear for a while, make weird little creatures, cover things in glitter and paint, and let my imagination run completely feral.
The problem was, when I came back to the human world, I never actually let myself rest.
I would work, come home exhausted, and still feel like I needed to pour something, paint something, finish an order, make a post, restock the shop, or figure out what I needed to create next. Somewhere along the way, the thing I created as an escape started becoming another thing I felt responsible for keeping up with.
And I don’t want to lose something I love because I convinced myself I had to constantly be productive for it to matter.
So The Feral Fairy isn’t going anywhere. I still absolutely love this weird little world I’ve created. I’m still going to make things, share the strange creatures that wander out of the forest, and I’ll still happily take custom orders.
But the focus is changing.
The Feral Fairy is going back to being a hobby first and a business second. I’m creating because I want to create—not because I feel like I have to keep producing something.
There may be longer stretches between posts. The shelves might not always be packed. Custom orders may take me a little longer. And sometimes I might disappear from the forest for a bit because real-life MiKayla needs to rest.
For the first time in a while, I’m learning that’s okay.
Thank you to everyone who has supported The Feral Fairy, bought one of my creations, shared a post, stopped by the shop, or simply enjoyed watching this strange little world grow. I’m incredibly grateful that something I originally created just for me became something other people found a little magic in too.
The forest is still here.
I’m just finally giving the fairy permission to rest. 🖤
As Always, Stay Feral 🖤✨
