It’s Trivia Thursday! Join us every Thursday to test your horticultural and general gardening knowledge. Comment with the correct answer in this post to enter for a chance to win a $10 Meadows Farms gift card!

You must leave your comment before 11:59 pm EST today (Thursday) to be eligible for the drawing. Correct answers will be entered into a drawing to win a $10 Meadows Farms gift card. Winning this week will make you ineligible for winning the following week (but you are still welcome to answer next week). The winner will be drawn on Friday and notified in the comments section. Your responsibility is to send us a private message with your address within one week. The gift card will be mailed to the winner and is good at any Meadows Farms location.

NOTICE: We’ve had intermittent incidents of Facebook accounts impersonating Meadows Farms, prompting respondents to follow a link to claim their “prize.” We will never contact you directly for any contests that we run, and we will never ask you to follow a link. The gift cards we send to winners each week are mailed, and you must contact us via private message to provide your mailing information. Anything else is a scam, and those accounts should be reported to Meta as such.

Continue to add grass clippings, other non-diseased plant material and fruit and vegetable scraps to the compost pile. Adding dried "brown" material after every "green" addition will help your pile break down at a faster rate.

Add a smart timer that adjusts irrigation based on local weather conditions, such as rainfall and temperature. Water an hour or two before sunrise to minimize evaporation and take advantage of calmer winds. Time irrigation to avoid high water use hours in your household.
