To be sitting here working with a RHR of 48 was once a dream. Forget the goal for a second. I don’t care about my marathon time, truly.

The byproduct of the goal is the real chase. The healthy body, the up and down journey, the fulfillment to purse something hard and challenge. It brings me peace I wouldn’t otherwise have.

Keep chasing peeps 🩵

Some athletes don’t necessarily miss the game 🏈

They miss having something to chase.

For the newest episode of Chasing, I sat down with Phil to talk about what happened after college football and how he found another place for that competitive side of himself in powerlifting.

At USA Powerlifting® (USAPL) Raw Nationals in Chicago last month, Phil’s coach pulled out his headphones and told him, “If you want to be anywhere in the conversation, you have to hit this lift.”

Phil walked up thinking the bar was loaded with a weight he had hit before.

It was 711 pounds.

He made it, walked off like it was normal, and then remembered he still had six more lifts ahead of him. What??? 🥴

Phil is a charismatic, gracious, and positive light and in this chat we get into the years behind his journey with football, injuries, missed lifts, weight cuts, body image, discipline, building a personal brand, and learning how to keep getting better without letting one number become your whole identity.

We also talk about what he is chasing next, why he wants the podium, and why being great means more to him than being strong.

Chasing Strength with Phil Posley is now live on YouTube and Spotify.

What happens when the game ends, but the need to compete does not?

For an upcoming episode of Chasing, we’re sitting down with Phil Posley (Phil ) to talk about his path from college football into national-level powerlifting, the work behind becoming stronger, and the identity shift that happens when one athletic chapter closes and another begins.

We’ll get into discipline, sacrifice, missed lifts, pressure, purpose, and what strength starts to mean when the numbers are no longer the whole story.

Chasing Strength with Phil Posley. Coming soon.

What would you want to ask Phil?

When traveling it’s hard to stay consistent both mentally and physically, but one way or another it’s gotta get done.

Not much, but anything is more than zero.

Ultra training is all fun and games and shiny shoes until you realize half the cart is anti-chafe, rash cream, bloodwork, and something to roll on your legs when you can’t feel them anymore. 🥶

This part of training doesn’t look very cool while I sit on my bed next to a tub of Vaseline.

But this matters as much as any new shoes, or watch, or headphones.

The miles are for the reels and this post is for all my chafers out there.

Forget perfect, chase better.

Not sponsored, but shoutout to for being part of the ultra prep chaos.

Peak week for the backyard ultra.

12 days out from May 30th Backyard ultra with , and this whole thing has been shifting how I think about running.

Most people treat the marathon like the gateway. Train for 26.2, make it, then maybe start looking at ultras later.

But honestly, the backyard format might be one of the best ways to get into bigger mileage.

Slow place. No official distance. Basically tailgating with your crew of friends. And eating all the food you want 🍩

It turns running into something a little more playful and a lot more strategic than just running from A to B as fast as you can!

You can go for 3 loops, 5 loops, 10 loops, 24 hours, whatever sounds dumb enough to make you curious.

That’s what I’ve loved about this so far. It makes big mileage feel less like some elite, unreachable thing and more like a weird little game you can build toward.

Peak week was the final big confidence push.

The biggest lesson so far is that backyard ultras aren’t only about being able to run far.

It’s about repeating the same decision every hour.

That’s the part I’m trying to get better at.

Peak week now turns into taper, which honestly might be harder for my brain than the running.

12 days out.
