"We sold hundreds of our debut Reading Is Freedom apparel in summer of 2020 but I had no idea how to generate postage labels for the orders that we received. Thankfully, Tony offered to teach me as long as I was willing to come to roastery at 5:00am for a 1-on-1 tutorial with him. That was super early for me at the time but I went and I've been shipping books & apparel all over the USA ever since! It's been a pleasure working with Tony and his team for the last 7 years and their coffee shop located at 2620 Tuckaseegee Rd is still one of my top 3 hang out spots in Charlotte. I recommend their coffee all the time because they're legitimately focused on people first and adding value to our community." 🙂 ~ Your Friendly Neighborhood Bookseller

"When I launched Shelves 7 years ago, our slogan was 'Where Great Stories Are Sold'. However, during our first year of business, I began to toy with the idea of changing it to something that aligns with my vision and goal of building an indie bookstore that encourages people to incorporate reading books into their digitally dependent lives. In 2020, we changed our slogan to 'Where Reading Is a Lifestyle', which has since become embedded in everything that we do and is also the name of our popular book subscription service too. "While talking to one day about my dream of opening a bookstore, she casually suggested that I should start out doing pop-ups. I hadn't considered a pop-up prior to her mentioning it. Hosting a book fair, yes, but not a pop-up bookstore. Still, I didn't let her brilliant idea go to waste; instead, I got to work on figuring out how to execute it. I knew then that Shelves would be the name of my bookstore, which unbeknownst to me at the time would launch the following year.
