Unnatural FOLIC ACID:
Folic ACID is not nature’s own form of folate but is a highly “oxidized” manmade form of folate which has been added to processed foods and is found in MANY supplements. Unnatural, synthetic Folic ACID is highly oxidized and must be run through the enzyme DHFR to become THF [TetraHydroFolate]. Unmetabolized unnatural Folic ACID will permanently block up the FRa [FOL1] receptors on the placenta and blood brain barrier [BBB] and this will then prevent folate from getting to the developing baby via the placenta and from getting into the brain.

Folic ACID Metabolism … clarified:
After synthetic, manmade Folic ACID has been made into Tetrahydrofolate [THF] the THF will be converted into 5-10-methyleneTHF and then the 5-10-MethylneTHF is made into L-Methyl Folate [5-MTHF] by the enzyme MTHFR.

Over the counter synthetic Folic ACID is not converted by the enzyme MTHFR but is metabolized by the enzyme DHFR twice [x 2] to become THF.

Medications that block the enzyme DHFR:
* ... Bactrim [an antibiotic often used to treat urinary tract infections]
* ... Metformin ... a diabetic medication
* ... Methotrexate ... a chemotherapy used to treat Rheumatoid Arthritis

UNMETABOLIZED FOLIC ACID … DANGER!
Unmetabolized Folic ACID blocks up the FRa [FOL1] receptors on the placenta and blood brain barrier [BBB] and this will prevent the good "reduced" folates L-Methyl Folate and Folinic acid [5-formylTHF, Leucovorin] from getting into the brain or across the placenta to the developing baby.
