I've screwed around with making a few cutting boards before, but I've never really done anything with them.

Figured it was time to change that.

This one started as a solid chunk of cherry and ended up roughly 18" × 9" × 3/4", shaped, sanded and finished right here in the shop.

Then came the part I almost overthought.

I could have covered the entire thing with engraving, but that would've been a mistake. The grain is the artwork.

So I kept it simple — a small **Great Lakes Collection** mark tucked into the corner and let the cherry do the rest.

This one is coming with me this weekend.

And I have a feeling there are going to be a few more.

I think we're finally getting the hang of this glass engraving thing.
It's taken a lot of testing, ruined glass, new equipment, new fixtures, and more than a few “well, that didn't work” moments.
But we're getting there.
Bottles. Decanters. Drinkware. Detailed logos. Photographs. Awards. One-offs. Production runs.
And we're still pushing to see what else we can do.
The best part about adding another capability at CMC isn't making more of the same stuff.
It's being able to say “Yeah, we can probably do that” to something we couldn't do six months ago.

When your coaster needs an engineering drawing. 😂
We decided a normal set of slate coasters wasn't quite enough, so we turned a simple idea into a full-on technical drawing.
CMC Beverage Retention Device — DWG 001
Precision laser engraved on natural slate, complete with dimensions, exploded view, operating instructions and just enough unnecessary engineering to make us happy.
Because sometimes the fun part of custom work is taking a ridiculous idea way too seriously.

Last Monday, this little prototype went to a township meeting.
We're working on a much larger Mill Creek watershed map that will eventually hang in Lima Township Hall.
Before the final piece was built, we made this small proof-of-concept so the township trustees could see the idea in person—not just look at a drawing on a screen.
It shows the watershed, roads, lakes and the network of creeks that run through the area.
This version was built to communicate the idea. The real map is going to be on an entirely different level.
Now that the project is moving forward, we'll be documenting the full-size build here from start to finish.
