These beautiful windows were one of our favorite features of our vacation rental, but they also created a challenge that became impossible to ignore.

The third floor had incredible natural light and water views, but as the sun rose and set, the temperature in the space became very difficult to regulate. Even with the thermostat set to 70 degrees, it stayed around 75 degrees for much of the day.

This is exactly the kind of situation where the right window treatment can make a meaningful difference.

Motorized solar shades could have been programmed to lower before the strongest direct sunlight reached each side of the home, helping reduce solar heat and glare while still maintaining some of the view. Once the sun shifted, the shades could automatically open again.

For us as renters, that could have meant a more comfortable space without constantly adjusting the thermostat.

For the property owners, it could help reduce strain on the HVAC system, protect flooring and furnishings from sun exposure, and create a better overall experience for guests.

Window treatments are not only about how a room looks. In the right application, they can help the entire space function better.

Labor Day feels like the perfect opportunity to share a little about the kind of workplace we are building at Gotcha Covered Chesapeake.

As we grow, I want to create more than jobs. I want to create meaningful opportunities for people to build careers, develop their strengths, and grow into leadership alongside the company.

We are building a culture where people are trusted, supported, and encouraged to take ownership of their success. A place where hard work is recognized, ideas are valued, and everyone understands how their contribution supports the bigger picture.

Meet the family behind Gotcha Covered Chesapeake. 🤍

I’m Tiffany, the owner and design consultant behind the business. Michael is my husband, one of my biggest supporters, and the steady presence behind so much of what I do.

Then there are our girls, Layla and Lily. They’re watching us take risks, work hard, serve others, and build something meaningful from the ground up.

And, of course, Peanut and Snow, the four-legged members of the family who keep us company and make sure there is never a dull moment.

Although I may be the face you see most often, building a business is truly a family effort. It takes flexibility, patience, encouragement, and plenty of teamwork as we navigate consultations, installations, school schedules, family time, and everything in between.

We are incredibly grateful for every person who has followed along, shared our name, referred a friend, welcomed us into their home, or supported us in any way.

I didn’t start this business because I loved blinds. 🤍

I started it because I’ve always loved helping people, building relationships, solving problems, and creating experiences that make people feel genuinely cared for.

My background in leadership and business development taught me that trust matters. People want to know that the person they’re working with is listening, being honest, and actually thinking about what’s best for them.

Gotcha Covered Chesapeake gave me the opportunity to bring together so many things I love: service, design, problem-solving, relationships, and entrepreneurship.

And while window treatments may seem like a small detail, they have such a big impact on the way a home feels. They affect your privacy, your comfort, your light, and whether a room truly feels finished.

My goal has always been bigger than selling a product. I want my clients to feel guided, cared for, and confident in the decisions we make together.

I’m a wife, a mom, a business owner, and someone who genuinely loves helping people create spaces that feel beautiful, functional, and finished.

When I started Gotcha Covered Chesapeake, I knew I wanted to build a business that brought together so many of the things I love: people, relationships, business, design, and helping others solve problems in their homes.

Today, I help homeowners and home professionals throughout Hampton Roads find window treatments that actually work for the way a space is used, whether that means better privacy, light control, energy efficiency, motorization, or simply adding that final layer that makes a room feel complete.

A window treatment can soften sunlight beautifully and still leave you without the nighttime privacy you expected.

That’s because light control and privacy aren’t the same thing.

During the day, natural light outside can make a sheer or light-filtering shade feel private. But once it’s dark and the lights are on inside, that same treatment may allow silhouettes—or more—to be visible from outside.

That doesn’t mean it’s the wrong product. It means we need to consider how you want the room to function during the day and at night.

Sometimes the right answer is a more private fabric. Other times, it’s layering two treatments so you can enjoy filtered natural light during the day and greater privacy at night.

Before choosing a window treatment, make sure you know what it will—and won’t—do throughout the entire day.
