Just putting some final decorations up before our Horror/Halloween Swap Night this Friday. The orange lights look soooo good in the dark (even though I need to run back out for 1 more set of lights).

Don’t forget this Friday at 6, we’re keeping the store open for our Halloween/Horror-themed potluck and swap night. Bring any toys, movies, books, decor, or whatever to trade. No money needed. Bring a themed dish and dress up if you can, though it’s certainly not required. Kids and adults who are still kids are welcome.

I’ve attached a video of some of the books I’m bringing for trade (our normal stock is also open to trade as well) but I’ll also post some pics of the food ideas I’ll be trying out and other goodies.

Our last even had over 50 people attend and I think this one will be even bigger based on the feedback. So pop in if you get a chance. We’ll stay open as late as we can.

A couple huge pickups the last few days and this is the first load of fiction getting put out today. Hopefully all will be out by tomorrow. But I think I’ll have nearly every classic and every hot author on the shelves after this. Good time to restock if you need to.

The holidays are coming, and with them comes a need for a few more hands around the shop!

We’re looking to add a permanent part-time team member to our schedule. Weekends and a friendly, helpful disposition are a must. Opening and closing experience is preferred, but we’re happy to train the right person.

Because we’re looking for someone to become a part of our regular team, availability during holidays and breaks is important.

I feel like this becomes a shot at the starting line each time, but here are a few shelves of great condition Stephen King’s. Most are 1st edition/1st printings.

… now I’ll get out of the way when we open tomorrow so the first few of you don’t knock me over :)

These are just some of the books I’ve found turned inside out (spine hidden) or flat out stashed behind other books the last few weeks. I guess people think they’re sending a message (to whom or of what I can only guess). As someone who hates censorship in all forms and believes in the right to read, I thought sharing these titles would be an appropriate response from a bookstore proprietor.

If you don’t like a book or author, don’t presume others may not have good reason to read it. Furthermore, reading or even selling a book does not necessarily mean one endorses its message. Any bookstore would be a dreadfully boring place if it only catered to a single reader or worldview.

I welcome any feedback on this matter. Otherwise, I might start doing this regularly :)
