RIP Epic Nerdanel ~ RWPP 10001
We found our matriarch passed in the woods this afternoon. 🌹
She struggled with the heat with her last litter a few months ago and I thought she may not be feeling her best so we were giving her some well-deserved time off. She took that difficult decision out of our hands.

She leaves a great legacy with piglets from 10 litters, generally 15 or more piglets, across the US. The fabulous Meleys (my super-rooter) is a granddaughter, and she's raising a large healthy litter of great-grands - getting ready to wean in another few weeks.

A gilt litter of 13 this morning ... This is Texas G Meleys the Red Queen. She is linebred Epic Maedhros (Hickory x Lime), by Texas G Ranch, and brought back to Cedar Break as part of a long term cooperative breeding agreement. This is what it looks like when red wattled hog people work together instead of competitively - and this is what will save our breed.

While I know we have an uphill battle for these bitties with our triple digit heat, I'm calling this a win.

Me late with the evening feed (waiting until the storm passes) ... pigs not giving a ffffff....ck about the rain. "Don't worry about it! We got this" ...they 'fixed' the gate for me so they could feed themselves. ...aren't they just so sweet 🤨🌹
