The Jamaican Sorrel is ready to bloom! (You might know it as Roselle or Florida Cranberry) This member of the hibiscus family has several important uses in Caribbean cooking. The base of each pink flower swells into a fleshy red fruit ...used for tea, jam, or the traditional holiday punch. Also, young leaves and stems can be cooked as a vitamin-rich vegetable. Our young plants are quite tall, but their full potential could be 7'-8'.
And the favorite cousin to Sorrel is Cranberry Hibiscus, which we have for sale this week, as well. Herbs are in good supply, lemon grass is tall and lush, hot peppers are numerous, annual flowers are colorful. It will be a busy sales week "on the hill".

Let's think about hot peppers today. We have secured some beautiful large Habanero and Super Chili plants for this week. They join our own home-grown pepper plants in smaller pots. Peppers hold up amazingly well in the hot Summer months, and now, as Fall approaches, they are doing even better.
Of course, our herbs look good, the perennial wagon has been re-filled, and our coleus hints of Fall color. For those who have asked about our new white pea vines... we have the first ones ready now. Our Lemon Grass is quite thick and tall. Lots of shopping options this weekend! Stop by from 9-2 on Sat or Sun @ 11050 Lakeshore Drive, Clermont.

This is Rosinweed. We discovered this interesting native plant 2 years ago at a garden center and are now growing it for ourselves. It is a cousin to sunflowers, and excellent nectar food for pollinators. (also good cut flowers) We have a few nice plants loaded for this week's market. They are just setting their buds and Fall is a good time to get them established. Ours survived the Feb freeze- they are hardy.

The Giant Milkweed is ready. This is the milkweed that Monarch butterflies use for caterpillar food in the Caribbean islands. It grows well in Central Florida, and most of our local plants recovered from the bad February freeze. The shrub gets BIG- it can grow to 10'. The leaves are grey-green and quite thick. It will feed quite a few baby caterpillars after other milkweeds are eaten down. They flower in either white or lavender, and we have both available this week.
We also have quite a few hot peppers, lemon grass, Cranberry Hibiscus and our beautiful blue Butterfly peas. Lots of plant choices!

It has been a year since we posted about our Blue Porterweed. It is one of the most dependable perennials for pollinators and usually in full bloom in August. Keep in mind that it will get big-maybe 4', so give it plenty of room in the garden. If you grow it, the butterflies will come.
We have quite a few great plants on board for this weekend- Cranberry Hibiscus, Jamaican Sorrel, lemon grass, 8 kinds of hot peppers, milkweed, culinary herbs, vegetable plants and annual flowers.
