Some news feels too big to hold quietly, so today I’m letting my heart spill over a little.

I’m honored and deeply grateful to share that I received a 2026 Funds for Artists Grant from the Greater Columbus Arts Council. When I think about what this means, I don’t just see funding—I see time. I see breathing room. I see long studio days where I can return my full attention to the tiny worlds, magical creatures, and handmade ornaments that have been waiting patiently in my imagination.

For an artist, so much happens behind the scenes: tending the website, writing newsletters, finding ways to stay connected, and making sure the stories behind the work have a place to land. This grant helps me share some of that weight, so I can spend more of my energy doing what I love most—creating art that carries a little wonder into the world.

Thank you, Greater Columbus Arts Council, for believing in artists and for honoring my work with this support. I’m also grateful to Mayor Andrew Ginther, Columbus City Council, and the Franklin County Commissioners for continuing to invest in the arts and in the creative heartbeat of our community.

This gift will help me keep growing, keep sharing EATHAKAH, and keep sending little pieces of magic from my hands into the homes and hearts of others.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart ❤️,

Catalina

And just like that, one of the most magical weekends in Columbus has come to a close. As the final day of the Columbus Book Festival ended, I found myself packing up with a full heart, tired feet, and so many beautiful memories tucked away like treasures.

It was such a wonderful weekend. Even with rain clouds threatening overhead, die-hard book lovers still lined up to meet their favorite authors, wander through rows of stories, and discover the most unique bookish treasures. That kind of love for books is its own kind of magic.

To everyone who stepped into my magical world of EATHAKAH and explored its realms—thank you. Watching visitors pause, smile, ask questions, and let their inner child awaken was one of the greatest gifts of the weekend. It reminded me why I create these little pieces of wonder in the first place.

So many Book Dragons and Book Fairies left for new homes, ready to perch on bookshelves, keep watch over favorite stories, and later find their place among twinkling Christmas tree branches. I love imagining them beginning their next chapter with each of you.

My deepest thanks to every visitor, reader, dreamer, staff member, and volunteer who helped make this event so special. The Columbus Book Festival truly felt like a celebration of stories, imagination, and community—and I am already looking forward to seeing you all next year.

Some dates seem to shimmer before they even arrive. For me, July 11 & 12 have been glowing on the calendar for months—the kind of weekend made for wandering between stories, meeting fellow book lovers, discovering new authors, and finding those little bookish treasures that make a shelf feel a bit more like home.

A few weeks ago, I hinted that I had a few more surprises debuting at the Columbus Book Festival… and this is one of them. For the past several months, I’ve been quietly working on a new ornament for all the dragon lovers: a Dragon Egg. Because truly, what is more magical than opening a fantasy book and finding dragons waiting inside?

Each egg has been carefully crafted with real eggshells and dragon scales made from my own watercolor paintings—tiny pieces of imagination layered together until they felt as if they belonged in EATHAKAH. I can hardly wait for this little piece of magic to make its very first appearance at the Columbus Book Festival.

And alongside the map of EATHAKAH—the world behind my ornaments—each ornament from its realms will now come with its own realm card. Collect the cards, take home the map, and step a little deeper into this magical place that has lived in my imagination for so long.

If you’re at the festival, come find me at BOOTH 45. I’d love to see you there, share the story behind these creations, and send a little piece of EATHAKAH home with you.

Some dates carry a little extra sparkle, and for me, July 11 & 12 feel like that. They mark the kind of weekend made for wandering among stories—meeting fellow book lovers, discovering new authors, adding one more treasure to the TBR pile, and finding those little bookish delights that make a shelf feel like home.

For the past several months, I’ve been quietly pouring my heart into a Book Dragon ornament—shaping him stitch by stitch, detail by detail, until he felt ready to meet the world. And now, I’m so excited to share that his very first appearance will be at the .

Even more special, this will be the first time you can step into EATHAKAH, the world behind my ornaments—wander through its realms, glimpse the stories that inspired them, and take home a map of this magical place that has lived in my imagination for so long.

I have a few more little surprises tucked away, and I can’t wait to share them with you.

If you’re at the festival, come find me at BOOTH 45. I’d love to see you there and share a little piece of this magical journey with you.

Every time someone asks, “What glue do you use for your ornaments?” I smile, because the answer is a little like a secret recipe—there isn’t just one! Each project is a tiny adventure, and the glue I choose depends on the journey the materials take together. Here’s a peek into my craft box and the stories each glue helps me tell:

Aleene’s Fabric Fusion is my go-to when felt needs to stay soft or when I want to keep fraying threads in check—it’s like wrapping the edges in a gentle hug.

Hot glue sticks swoop in for those rushed moments when fabric and yarn need to stick fast, or when I need a quick fix as stronger glues settle in for the long haul.

Aleene’s Tacky Glue is perfect when paper and cardboard need to hold tight—almost like a friend lending a steady hand.

For projects with two unlikely companions—say, paper and fabric—I trust Aleene’s The Ultimate Glue, patiently curing for 24 hours, or E-6000, which takes a little longer but builds strong bonds.

Weldbond comes out when thick paper and cardboard need to stick, but speed isn’t of the essence—giving me time to make sure everything aligns just right.

Elmer’s School Glue Stick is gentle enough for thin papers that would otherwise wrinkle—a soft touch that keeps delicate layers smooth.

These glues are more than tools—they’re silent partners in my creative journey. And there are so many more waiting backstage, ready to step in for the next episode of “Not All Glues Are Created Equal.”

Which glues have accompanied you in your craft adventures? Let’s share stories and secrets—because every handmade piece carries a tale behind its seams and stitches.

Happy gluing,

Catalina

Stepping into Twistedbark Woods feels like wandering into a page from a fairy tale. Here, gnomes with wild magic dance among the blue-leafed trees, weaving ancient spells from the very earth beneath their feet.

The forest hums with a secret life: sunlight dapples through twisted branches covered with lichens and moss, and mushrooms, ferns and toadstools paint the ground with wonder, and every breeze carries the laughter of gnomes tending their mossy gardens. And whiffs of chives and ramps add to the mystery of this realm.

It’s a place where the soil is treasured, nurtured by centuries of falling leaves and guarded fiercely by those who know its worth—the Woodland Gnomes. In Twistedbark Woods, every corner bursts with enchantment—and every visit reminds me that magic isn’t just in stories; it’s right here, waiting to be found.

Have you found your magic?

Sometimes, the magic behind a handmade ornament isn’t just in the look—it’s in the thoughtful engineering that makes it last year after year. Every time I dream up a new ornament, I find myself considering how to build it to withstand the playful chaos of the holidays. Sure, I can’t predict everything (puppies are wild cards!), but I can prepare for tumbling trees and curious little hands with some clever detail work.

For example, this tiny button is more than meets the eye—it acts as a washer, anchoring a wire through the ornament’s body. That wire becomes the backbone for the hanging loop, ensuring my creation stays together even if the glue gives up someday. It’s a small trick, but one that brings me peace, knowing the ornaments I make are crafted to last.

There’s something wonderful about discovering and sharing these little solutions. It’s where creativity and engineering meet—and where the story of each ornament truly begins.

Sometimes, ideas simmer in my mind for ages before they finally burst forth into reality. The journey from a thought to a tangible piece is never straightforward—first, I need to shape the vision, then put it through countless trial-and-error cycles until the design feels just right.

Every step, from sketching to prototyping, is a blend of patience, engineering, and magic.

Creating my Book Dragon ornament was a true adventure: three different patterns, each with their own quirks and challenges, but each teaching me something new.

The first was just a drawing—there was no way to support the dragon. The second had a tail so narrow, I could barely turn it right side out, and no matter how I stuffed it, the tail’s curve just wouldn’t hold.

Finally, the third pattern—complete with a curved tail, reinforced fabric, and a sturdy hanging loop—brought my vision to life, resting atop a stack of books just as I imagined.

It takes time, but this process is where creativity and engineering meet, and where I find the most joy.

Meet my magical companions, each one a spark of creativity in my enchanted studio!

Drea, my mini drill (a Dremel MultiPro gifted by my husband Steve), spins with the power to shape dreams into reality.

Bella is my clay rolling and toilet paper roll flattening machine—yes, you read that right! She’s a Marcato Atlas Noodle Maker from Italy, but what matters is how she turns humble materials into whimsical creations.

Rosie, my 3D printer—an original Prusa Mini built by my son—is pure magic. She brings every imagined part or accessory to life, with the help of PrusaSlicer software.

Darling, my husband Steve’s drill press, which lets me join ornament bodies and heads, so my magical creatures never lose their heads.

And Samantha—my trusty tabletop saw—slices through wood, cardboard, and even the toughest plastic, helping me sculpt tiny worlds one cut at a time.

These tools aren’t just equipment—they’re partners in the magic. Carefully named, each one holds a story and a purpose. They make every day at the studio be a new adventure—where wonder, possibility, and creativity never end.

Step into Acorn Hollow, the very first dream that came to life in my enchanted world of Eathakah. Picture tiny fairies and pixies fluttering among magical snails, their homes tucked beneath mushrooms and towering pinecones. Here, the ancient whisper of mossy stones and gentle trees creates villages so small you might find them hidden in a teacup or burrowed in a rabbit hole. Sunlight filters through the lush leaves, sparkling across playful fairies and shimmering snail trails—a sanctuary where every creature, no matter how small, gets to be the hero of their own story. In this magical realm, wonder is everywhere and imagination knows no bounds.

Believe in magic!🧚🏼
