Yesterday made it all worth it, why I created "Andy's Uke's. A customer came in with a picture of an Ohana __ 50-ME, no size specified. She said she wanted a "Concert". So I took a CK-50ME down, tuned it up and let her play it. She was diggin it, but I wanted to make sure it was the right one for her. So I brought down a CK-70R, the 50ME is a Cedar top, rich, warm, and well defined. The 70R is a Spruce top, bright clear, strong upper range and high mids and seems louder. She immediately connected with the Spruce. I had her go back and forth until she was sure that was the tone/sound she heard in her head.
She settled on the 70R/Spruce. I asked her is she's ever played a Tenor? She said she hadn't, so I brought down the same two in Tenor. It took a bit but I could see that puzzled look on her face. She was liking the Tenor better. No surprise, given the choice most do.
This is the difference between a pretty picture on a web sight and being in a real store where you can experience the difference for yourself, and make an informed decision which is the best Uke for you.
I could have just sold her what she came in for, most would have. But that's not my job as I see it.
My job is to make sure she gets the right Uke for her.
And that makes it all worth it, she bought something that wasn't even on her radar, but what she connected with.
