Final post!

This is our last post as bookstore owners. We signed papers today with new owners Bil Morrill and Julia Morrill who will re-open the store in September as Wild Geese Books. We are excited for them to begin this chapter in their lives and feel confident they will find success and maintain the store's legacy--while putting their own touches and vision into it.

While we didn't own the store for very long, the energy and time we invested make it part of our lives forever. We are proud of our efforts and appreciate everyone who supported us--whether through commerce, labor, donations, or simply offering a compliment or kind word. Amazingly, we survived a lot in the nineteen months we were here: Main St. reconstruction, a tough economy, and all the challenges facing independent bookstores at this time. We had a vision for the store and are very pleased that we made it a reality! We wanted to put some "groove" into it and we believe we succeeded.

As we move away from Cottage Grove we will remember fondly our time here as business owners. We strove to be a vital part of the downtown and support other downtown businesses as best we could (Lisa and Max both even won the weekly raffle during construction because they made a point to support almost EVERY downtown business!).

Thank you to all our friends and customers. We will miss seeing you come through our door.

As many of you know we sold the business! We will remain closed for the rest of August. The new owners plan to open in early September under a new name. We are proud of our time at the store and appreciate everybody who supported us and made it such a success! We cannot be happier with the new owners and know they will carry on the legacy that started decades ago. Here is an introductory note from the new owners Bil and Julia:

A New Chapter for a Beloved Bookstore.

Bil and Julia Morrill are thrilled to announce that they are purchasing Cottage Groove Books and will officially take over the store in September. With the change in ownership comes a new name: Wild Geese Books.

The Morrills are excited to continue the legacy of this special bookstore, a legacy that began with Kalapuya Books in 1997 and continued with Cottage Groove Books in 2025. They feel incredibly fortunate to have the opportunity to carry that tradition forward and help write the next chapter.

Cottage Grove has been an important part of the Morrills' story for many years. They lived in Cottage Grove from 2008 until 2018, and all three of their daughters graduated from Cottage Grove High School. Even after moving away, their connection to the community never really ended.

They have been deeply involved with Cottage Theatre. Julia served as a Front of House Manager for nearly 17 years, while Bil has appeared on stage a number of times, stage managed and/or directed approximately 25 productions, and currently serves as President of the Cottage Theatre Board of Directors.

Simply put, Bil and Julia love books almost as much as they love the Cottage Grove community.

With Wild Geese Books, they hope to create a place where people can discover a great story, find an old favorite, stumble upon something unexpected, and feel at home among books and fellow readers.

They are incredibly excited to open the doors in September and look forward to serving the Cottage Grove community, supporting the people and organizations that make this town special, and continuing this bookstore legacy for many years to come.
