✨EXCITING NEWS (and a massive 15% off SALE!)

I can hardly believe it, but last month marked SEVEN years of Yellow House Story Shoppe! And when we realized that this 7-year milestone aligned perfectly with my husband’s sabbatical from his employer, we knew this time away was meant to be. 💛
So I will be heading into a 7-week planning and investing shoppe sabbatical break NEXT WEEK! 📚✈️
This isn’t *just* a rest, although there will be plenty of that happening (along with adventures and visits with each of our kids). We are also spending this time working on some SUPER exciting bookshop developments—and of COURSE taking a lengthy inventory adventure, to restock and replenish our shoppe shelves (and your home libraries!)
Because our online “doors” will be closed while we are away, we want to make space on our shelves and get you all the books you need before we go! Well, friends, it certainly doesn’t feel like fall is coming, but if my book stacks help encourage the change, then I am officially doing my best! 🧡🍁

Phase one of Operation Autumn has begun at the shoppe—and as you know, more will soon follow! Today I added all things apples, pumpkins, and leaves—and Halloween and Thanksgiving will all be added in a couple of weeks. (September-December is my FAVORITE time of the year for all things holiday hitting the bookshop! Every week brings new treasures, and they always go sooo fast!)
In other news:

🧹 I also spent three straight hours tidying and restocking today, and I still ran out of time! The shelves are full (and clean) again!

🎁 We also added a new “gift market shelf” to help feature all of the sweet add-ons that go perfectly with your book purchases!
🍁 Be on the lookout for the most adorable FALL themed cards and watercolor books coming this weekend!

It’s no secret that we are BIG fans of home libraries around here! And what’s better for your book collecting than adorable book plates to adorn the inside covers?

These watercolor plates take your family’s story collection to the next level, and are a lovely literary add-on for book lovers of all ages!

Artist Felix Doolittle, and his wife, Loren share our love for the delightful pastimes of writing real letters, reading and sharing books, and making colorful, story-filled homes.

One last little sneak peek before I go pack up orders! (I love seeing the book stacks you build! 😍👏📚) For those who are looking for history resources—whether for the fall, or for fun—both World History and American History have some new titles to explore!
And remember, all of these books are 1) ones our own family has read, loved, and/or owned, 2) are living books written and illustrated for kids but do not talk down to them, and 3) are rescued very meticulously for a new family to use and love! All books are in like-new condition unless noted—I only choose copies I would keep for myself! ❤️

If you were walking into my actual cozy corner bookshop (a dream I do hold on to) on this sunny Saturday morning, I would be happily restocking some of these favorites to shelves already full of treasures. So, although I wish you could open the door to the ti**le of bells, with coffee in hand, and peruse restocked bookshelves while chatting with me about what you’re looking for—the next best thing I can do is show you the restocks in pictures and invite you to grab coffee and peruse my virtual bookshelves instead! 🥰📚☕️
Almost all of these are books we have already had in stock before and they are now added back into inventory. This means that you won’t necessarily find them on the “new arrivals” page…but they’re tucked into other Collections of Chapter Books and Picture Books. (Or you can always search by title or author!)
I KNOW online shopping is never as fun as an in-person book experience. So I appreciate your patience in perusing this way—and your support in buying small anyway! I think Instagram is trying to make us all crazy, with its added music, text on each photo, fast-paced reels...and now let’s add multiple captions on a post! 🫠

But what an even BETTER reason to choose BOOKS! Especially beauties that bring new knowledge…and simple JOY even from the shelves!

There are so many wonderful old series of books to collect in the world! And these are some of my favorites!

Okay, friends, this is the last preview for this week—and goodness, by this point, I am reminded that I sure do love books more than social media! 😂 It just feels so loud around here most days. 🙃😬
So, before I go find quiet rest for the weekend 🥰, let me first say HAPPY INDEPENDENT BOOKSHOP DAY (on Saturday)! I am SO GRATEFUL to be a part of this little world of book-loving people, who care deeply about the written word and the power of stories…and invest their time and resources in building home libraries and sharing stories of all kinds with your people.

As a mom of many, who works in multiple different ways—I can fill every waking minute of my time VERY easily, as I’m sure can be said for many of you. So it feels like I have to carve in rest time, not to sleep, necessarily—but to let my mind simply slow down and savor.
So guess what one of my favorite “downtime combos” is? Books + Puzzles + Tea = True Quiet Rest for my heart and mind. 📚🧩☕️ It honestly feels like luxury when I can spend an afternoon or evening with these three, because time seems to slow wayyyy down.
So if there’s anything I want to share on the “shelves” of my shoppe, it’s tools to help YOU and YOUR family slow down and savor the power of a story and the joy of an unplugged activity.

Well, if you can’t tell, our little bookshop is catching up this month! We have had stacks and stacks of such delightful books, just patiently waiting for me to find time to share them with you! And I have been determined to move these treasures from storage to shoppe shelves!

Last but not least, here are a few sneak peeks of the new inventory for history, both American and World! There are so many good stories of people and places and time periods that have deeply impacted our lives. And what a joy to get to learn through good stories!
