Hey there sports card freaks! I just returned from the National today and wanted to pop on and share most of my pickups from the show. I’ll be sharing my thoughts later on in the week, but want to put those together a little better for you, so we’ll just cover my pickups today. Went in with a game plan of trying to get 4 Jackie and Mickey cards plus a Cy Young, in addition to some fresh product for the tables. With the market taking off lately, I wanted to focus on 2nd and 3rd tier hall of famers hoping their card prices would follow suit soon. With that said, I also wanted to focus on grabbing some higher grade cards of those players while they were affordable. As you can see, I succeeded on some of my game plan (though not to the degree of my hopes) and swerved on some others. I got half of my Mickey and Jackie goals covered..and still came home with plenty of cash to continue the pursuit. The Mickey and Jackie may eventually hit the table, but I need to let the comps catch up with what I need to get in return to make the trip worthwhile. Hope you enjoy!

Had a busy weekend between the Oskaloosa and Regional show. Sales were decent, solid traffic at the Regional and I think that is nicely positioned to go big time. Very nice facility with lots of room to grow without losing wide aisles that allowed people to dig into my boxes. I had a box of value slabs that were all under $20 each and had a guy buy them all for his whatnot stream. I also had an interesting lot walk in. Im not a big vintage basketball guy, but with Wilt headlining the lot, I knew someone out there would be interested in it. Over 70 cards total, I think 2/3 of the set is here with a few hall of famers. Looking for 175 for this. The wilt can go 50-75 in poor condition which most of these cards are with creases and tape residue. Let me know if you are interested!

Welcome Sports Card Freaks!
I want to start by saying thank you to our new followers! In the last 6 months, I think we have increased our followers by 20%! A hefty increase for 6 months. So thank you to the new followers, AND thank you to those who continue to follow us! I hope I can continue to post content that is worth of a few minutes of your time a few times a month!
We also want to announce that we have secured two shows for the next week. On Saturday, we will be in Oskaloosa at the Penn Central Mall for the Oskaloosa Sports Card Expo. This show has always been a staple for me, but unfortunately I have missed the last few and am excited to return, though it will be for ONE DAY ONLY! So come on down Saturday and check us out.
Why will be there just one of the two days for show? Well, we had previously committed to the Des Moines Regional Sports Card Show for Sunday, so it will be a busy weekend! I am excited to see the transformation this show will make. For those of you who have attended this in the past, the location has moved to the MidAmerican Rec Plex which will allow for MORE vendors and more space! It has always been a little tight so I am hoping this will be alleviated. In addition to this, they will have auto signors this time with two Iowa Hawkeye alumni, and two professional wrestlers, so this addition will be exciting to see. It seems a trend lately in the Des Moines metro area. Chuck Knoblach signed at Principal Park a few weeks ago and there was an MMA fighter at the first Norwalk show. It is surprising that there are a few former players living in the Des Moines area, so it will be interesting to see if this trend continues.
Recently, I got a small package from COMC and did a pick a few weeks ago to help drive my table and it brought me to a recent trend….base cards going absolutely nuts! For example the 1995 Pinnacle Ken Griffey Jr (he blows a bubble the size of his head on this card). Base raw cards are bringing about $45-50 bucks a card on the table. The 1993 Studio card where he blows a much smaller bubble brings a much lower amount, but has still seen a marked increase lately.
In my COMC package I got a Michael Jordan 1997-98 Metal Universe #23. Any Metal Universe Jordan card is going absolutely nuts! This particular one recently had a raw sale for $400! In May this was going for $50-90.
These scream market manipulation to me and may be exposing a weakness in the market where COMPS are king. Someone could have a dozen of these….post three up for sale and have a buddy “buy” them, then voila at the next show he has them on his table and has the comps to support the ridiculous prices. Maybe I am a conspiracy theorist, but these cards aren’t rare enough to support these prices. I would love to buy more of them, I am afraid of the market repercussions. With that said, With that said, if you have these cards and would like to take advantage of the market, I am open to taking them on consignment for my next two shows at a 10% fee. If they don’t sell, no fees, and if they do, we can both benefit. Let me know if you are interested and how we can connect. I am open to doing this on ANY Jordan insert and a lot of Griffey and 90s inserts. Hit me up. You can reach me at 515-729-0245.
What are your thoughts on these cards. Is this a legitimate fad, is this market manipulation, is this a long term investment situation?

Our pop up sale last weekend was nice. Not quite the traffic I had hoped...but everyone who stopped by left with stuff which was nice. It was nice enough it was equal to a decent show. We had a couple people stop off after they had been at the Hilton show downtown and feedback was unanimous..we had a better selection. Apparently that show was over powered by tcg. I also usually avoid trading for non card things...but we had 2 things walk in from Terry Slagg...a piece of Mickey Mantle hair...and this neat shirt that I just had to try on tonight. Its a little tight though it's a large, but it was cool to get it on for a few minutes!

So the selection of this garage sale was a little weird. The cards were all in a tub individually priced. I think the person used to be a dealer 15 years ago and just gave up and stored the tubs away. As a result, some of the prices were spot on, some were high, and some were low. There were graded cards but mostly off grade companies. One of the first cards I saw was the 52, that definitely caught my attention. Lots of golf autos of guys I hadn't heard of...lots of guys who were touted at one time that never elevated...but after an hour, I left with these.

Been a while since i have done a pick...but I hit a garage sale this morning that may have some gems in it. Stay tuned!!
