If you were old enough, you remember where you were. If you're not, this was just another moment you learned about in History class.
I was living in Arizona and on my way to work. I honestly thought it was just a really bad joke the morning radio show was putting on. I remember thinking that there's no way they were going to get away with this one.
I walked into work at the DHL Technical Support Call Center. I remember it being weirdly quiet. Even though it was still early, normally someone would be on a support call. They had a TV set up and it felt like all eyes were on me. I was the one that was FROM the NYC area (the second plane had not yet hit).
I realized it was real. Eventually it became surreal.
May we never forget all of those lives we lost on that day. May the lesson learned be that hate doesn't work. Division doesn't work. May we find our way back to remembering what it felt like to care about your fellow human being. To remember that - to coin a phrase - we will always be stronger together than we can ever be apart.
Never forget 9/11
