New drops at Superior Shrimp & Aquatics today and we're pretty excited about this batch.

On the shrimp side:
- Dark Fire Red Cherry -- deeper, heavier, more saturated red than anything else in the red cherry line.
- Yellow Goldenback S Grade and Yellow Goldenback Thick Backline for those of you who've been waiting on higher-grade Goldenback stock.

Fish:

If you haven't kept any of the Pseudomugil species before, these are some of the most stunning nano fish in the freshwater hobby and they are outstanding with shrimp.
- Paskali Red Neon
- Neon Blue Rice Fish
- Gertrude Blue Eye

- Venezuelan Cory
- Bristlenose Pleco
- Albino Bristlenose

And we added a Fish Food we're really happy with -- 40% protein, freeze dried krill, brine shrimp, spirulina, no preservatives, made in the USA.

Everything is live now at superiorshrimpaquatics.com. Questions or want more info on any of these? Drop them below.

Superior Shrimp & Aquatics is hiring a Part-Time Order Packer! (Duluth, MN)
We're a family-run aquatics business shipping live freshwater shrimp, fish, plants, and snails nationwide, and we're looking to add one more person to our packing team.
Schedule:

Part-time, 16 to 20 hours per week
Sundays and Mondays (our biggest packing days)
Occasional Tuesdays depending on order volume

What you'd be doing:

Packing live animal orders for nationwide shipment (we'll train you)
Bagging shrimp, fish, snails, and plants
Prepping boxes, insulation, and heat/cold packs
Following our packing checklist so every order goes out right

What we're looking for:

Self-starter who can work independently with minimal direction once trained
Reliable, Sunday and Monday availability is a must, with some Tuesday flexibility
Detail-oriented, live animals depend on orders being packed correctly
Comfortable working with your hands and getting them wet
Aquarium hobby experience is a plus but not required

If you've ever wanted to get paid to work with shrimp and fish, this is your chance. Email [email protected] with a little about yourself.

🪵 One Wish Willows — now in stock 🪵
You've seen the movie. You know what these are.
Each one grants a single wish. Remove from tank, make it count, and snap.
We won't tell you what to wish for. But for what it's worth, the last few customers wished for healthier shrimp, softer water, and more biofilm — and every single one of those wishes came true. Make of that what you will.
A few notes, for your safety:

One wish. That's it. Don't get greedy.
Effects are permanent. Slightly softer water. A faint tannin tint. Shrimplets that disappear into the honeycomb and only come out at night.
Do not use two. We're not liable for what happens to your nitrogen cycle.

Cholla wood, technically. Shrimp love it, it grows biofilm like nothing else, and it breaks down slowly as your colony grazes. But you already knew that.

❗️PSA❗️
We’re apologizing in advance for the distressing post, but there reaches a point that we need to stand up for ourselves.

Just because we are a shelter, does not mean you can abandon animals with us. While we are here to serve the community and help in times of need - there is a right and wrong way to do things…and today was wrong.

This post is not about shame, but to bring knowledge and accountability.

We want to make this perfectly clear:
We DO NOT have a full time vet on staff.
We do not have unlimited funding or unlimited kennel space.
We DO have an intake process that ensures the safety of our staff and the animals in our care.

Today a woman walked through our front doors with a dog and stated that she would not be leaving with her. While we started to gather more information, we explained that we schedule our surrenders besides in the case of emergencies to help control our population.

While she started arguing with our staff, if became clear quite quickly that the dog (whose name was Trixie) was experiencing severe respiratory distress. The owner claimed it was anxiety from being in the car.

After a very short time of observing Trixie, we flat out told the owner that her dog appeared to be actively dying, and that we did not have a vet on site that could save her.
We repeated multiple times that she needed to quickly put Trixie back in the car and drive to the closest vet so they could intervene.

The owner refused to do so, while Trixie lost complete control of her bowels and began vomiting and defecating on herself on our lobby floor.

After it became clear that her owner was not going to help get her the care she needed to survive, we did our best to quickly do a legal transfer of ownership so we could end her suffering.
At this point her entire mouth had turned purple, and it appeared she had been without sufficient oxygen for far too long.
(If you ever see your animals tongue/gums turning a shade of blue/purple, please seek IMMEDIATE medical attention!)

This entire interaction from Trixie walking through the door, to passing on at the offsite vet occurred in about 30 minutes total. We acted as quickly as possible, while adhering to Minnesota laws surrounding end of life care.

So while we DID sign up for this work…we didn’t sign up to be put in situations time and time again that cause severe emotional distress to our staff.

We did not sign up to try and cool a dying dog down with ice packs while begging their owner to do the right thing.

We did not sign up to be taken advantage of.

So please understand, we will always do our very best to help the community and their animals…but that can only be done with mutual respect.

We want to send a thank you to the local vet who quickly stepped in to help Trixie once they legally could do so. Thank you to our staff for getting her loaded and to the offsite vet as quickly as possible.

Thank you to the hundreds of people we see each week who are kind, respectful and understanding of our policies.

We want to remind the public that many dogs with short, flat faces and squashed skulls can struggle to breathe. The high temps mixed with activity can increase their struggle, and lead to an emergency situation very quickly. Please keep a close eye on your pets this summer. Do not leave them unattended in a hot car for any duration of time.

Lastly we want to say sorry to Trixie.
We’re sorry there wasn’t more we could do for you. We hope you felt how hard we were fighting for you, and that the gentle head scratches from strangers brought you some comfort in the end.❤️

We will be reporting this situation to the authorities.

That was kind of them!

Heat Advisory: Shipping Delays This Week
A heat wave is moving across much of the country, and we're holding orders to protect your livestock. High temperatures during transit are one of the biggest risks to live shrimp and fish, and shipping into dangerous heat is not worth the loss.
What this means for you:

- Many orders will be delayed until conditions improve in transit zones
- We process in the order received (FIFO) once it's safe to ship
- Orders ship with cold packs as conditions require
- You'll get tracking as soon as your order goes out

We watch the forecasts daily and ship the moment the route clears. Holding your order is a deliberate call to make sure your animals arrive alive and healthy.
Thanks for trusting us with your livestock. Questions about a specific order? Reply here or email us.
