A sweet story about a special pup from insider.com. It’s sad but beautiful on how they honored him. Our fur babies are truly special and can touch so many lives ❤️

Moose has been working as a therapy dog for six years at Virginia Tech's Cook Counseling Center.

In February, he was diagnosed with prostate cancer, so the university decided to honor him during the 2020 virtual commencement because of all the students he's been able to help.

"It was the right place at the right time because we wanted to honor his years of service," his owner and licensed counselor Trent Davis told Insider. "To honor him knowing that his life span has been shortened by cancer. It's not one of those where we say, 'Well, we will wait another year and give him a degree then.'"

Question tho - Do you understand why puppies need a series of the same core vaccine (aka boosters)❓ It’s because of “maternal antibodies” which are a passive form of immunity designed to go from mom to pup and given thru mom’s milk. Maternal antibodies’ purpose is to give puppies’ immune systems a head start with the antibodies mom has previously developed over her life.
However, maternal antibodies interfere with a puppy’s ability to develop their own immunity when given a vaccine up until about 17-18 weeks of age. Therefore we give puppies booster core vaccines every 3-4 weeks through 17-18 weeks of age. Btw their first vaccine is generally given ~8 weeks old.
To clarify - the puppy core vaccine is initially given at 8 weeks and then every 3-4 weeks thru 17-18 weeks of age. Maybe you’ve heard otherwise from non-veterinarians but this is what we do and it’s for a good, scientific reason 👨🏻‍⚕️. Lmk if that makes sense 😉
