This Week in Hip Hop History 🎤

This past week marked the born day of B-Real (June 2, 1970), one of hip-hop’s most distinctive voices and a true West Coast icon.

As the frontman of Cypress Hill, B-Real helped create a sound and style unlike anything the culture had heard before. With his unmistakable voice, fearless lyricism, and genre-defying creativity, he helped turn Cypress Hill into one of the most influential groups in hip-hop history.

From classics like “How I Could Just Kill a Man,” “Insane in the Brain,” and “Hits From the Bong” to decades of contributions to music and culture, B-Real’s impact continues to be felt around the world.

Salute to a pioneer, a lyricist, and a hip-hop legend. 👑

Happy Born Day to B-Real!

WERE YOU THERE???

Every movement starts small. Tito D talks about the early jams, the friendships that stretched from El Paso to Las Vegas, and how those relationships helped bring Breaking Boundaries to the city—an event that many still consider a turning point for local b-boy culture.

📀 TODAY IN HIP HOP HISTORY
On May 29, 1987, LL Cool J released his sophomore album Bigger and Deffer (BAD).
The album helped cement LL's status as one of hip-hop's first superstars and featured classics like "I'm Bad," "I Need Love," and "Go Cut Creator Go." Blending hard-hitting battle rhymes with crossover appeal, Bigger and Deffer expanded hip-hop's reach and proved an MC could dominate both the streets and the charts.
Nearly four decades later, this remains one of the most important albums of rap's golden era.
🔥 What's your favorite track off Bigger and Deffer?

Before social media connected everyone, El Paso's Teen Expos brought the city's youth together in one place. Tito D reflects on the dance competitions, the b-boy culture, and the excitement of seeing kids from every side of town come together. A nostalgic look at one of his earliest memories of hip-hop culture in the Borderland.

Today in Hip Hop History: May 28, 1991 🔥

N.W.A. dropped their second and final studio album, Efil4zaggin — an album that debuted at #1 and proved the group could shake the system without watering anything down.

From “Appetite for Destruction” to “Alwayz Into Somethin’,” this record captured the raw energy, controversy, and street reality that made N.W.A. one of the most influential groups in hip-hop history.

More than 30 years later, the impact still hits hard. 🎤

What’s your favorite track off Efil4zaggin??? 👀
