This is the very first photo of us, taken the night I met his sisters. He had a full head of dreadlocks and I was wearing a hot dog costume. We'd been dating about a week and were already smitten.
Little did we know that night that we'd go on to support each other through a bachelors and masters degree, several career changes and two cross-country moves.
That we'd battle infertility, only to learn that a sweet (and very sassy) puppy would complete our family instead.
That we'd buy a condo in VA, lose it in a fire, buy another one in CA, gut nearly every inch, and spend four years building it back.
Together, we've traveled to new places, near and far. We've made new friends. And lost some, too.
We've helped each other overcome personal battles, physical and emotional. We've celebrated big moments and little victories, alike. We've fought about a lot of stuff, too.
He cheered me on as I built my small business; now I'm cheering him on as he builds his.
In the 20+ years since this photo was taken, we've created a perfectly imperfect life together. And I wouldn't trade it for the world. Now let's go get a hot dog
