Woolly Ironweed (Vernonia lindheimeri) is regularly visited by native bees. This leafcutting bee was really enjoying it and kept hopping from one flower to another.

Say hello to Earl Grey. He is the reason we can't have nice things... He is currently resting on the bed of Pink Evening Primrose. He also broke a bunch of Turk's Cap and is the reason why grasses look like a birds nest.

This Woolly Ironweed (Vernonia lindheimeri) was planted about 3 months ago, so it is not full grown but already happy and blooming.

This is a compact perennial that thrives on neglect. It needs well-draining soil, full sun and to be only watered as needed.

The Short Pollinator Garden was bursting with color in the spring. Blooming perennials and annuals dominated the garden. Then there was the transitional period in late June/early July when I cut most things back.

The summer look is different. Grasses take center stage, with the blooms interwoven but not dominant. Sideoats Grama and Pink Fluffgrass look terrific and add so much movement, texture and visual interest. Photos don't do them justice.

It is hard for me to showcase the beauty of grasses in photos. While my eyes capture every nuance and I am in awe of richness of grasses, sadly my phone camera does not keep up.

This is Pink Fluffgrass (Tridens congestus - heavy, wheat-like seedheads, blue-ish foliage, compact - it adds interest, texture and movement to the garden. I like it so much I keep adding it to the shop gardens.
