I saw dozens of monarch butterflies when I came to the shop this morning. Finally, Azure Blue Sage (Salvia azurea) started blooming and I found the monarchs all over it. Such a gorgeous day, I wish I could stay in the garden all day.

If you have followed Teddy's story, you will be happy to hear that he found a great home where he is accepted and part of the family. It was certainly a journey, and not easy four months, but he is doing amazing.

But supply of homeless animals in need appears to be endless. Today I rescued this diluted tortoiseshell kitten. Someone dumped three female kittens by a business I frequent. I tried my best to find a rescue for all three but was unsuccessful. I couldn't take all three but I did take this little one today. She's the shy one out of the three. And a lovebug. She will be going to the vet next and then looking for her forever home. In the meantime, I am looking for a name for her. Any ideas?

It is hard not to be in awe when you see nature's beauty. Every time I pass by Leavenworth's Eryngo (Eryngium leavenworthii) I feel compelled to stop and admire it. It adds so much to the garden in terms of color, structure, texture.

And then I turn my head and see the ocean of Cowpen Daisy (Verbesina encelioides). Yes, it's an aggressive reseeder but when you see the bees and butterflies all over it (Monarch favorite) you are reminded why it is worth having. The flowers are pretty and I do enjoy them but most importantly it supports so much life.

Our Rough Gayfeather (Liatris aspera) has just started to bloom and, as with all Liatris species, the blooms are stunning. The color is so vivid. It is bees favorite. And if you can make it stay upright, it adds height without being bulky. Rough Gayfeather in particular has architectural quality to it well before it blooms.
