Last Sunday during our monthly meeting there was a lovely donation brought in for the begonia collection. The donor would like to remain anonymous, but the collection is very grateful for this addition. Here you can see a short video of Glenn Dickerson opening the newly acquired Begonia DS-Wednesday.

We had an excellent meeting yesterday where Jake Defoore took us Back to Begonia Basics. This presentation was perfect timing setting us up for success for the leaf exchange next month. Jake talked about begonia anatomy, classification, and propagation. There were great photos showing exactly where to cut the leaf/stem and also live demonstrations. Thank you members and guests for attending.

Also, a special thank you to Laura(Pink Leaf Lab) and Manny(verdure culture (ver•jr)) for the begonia goodies you brought to share. We appreciate your generosity and support!

Where are Don and Glenn?

Don Miller and Glenn Dickerson are currently in Tucson, AZ attending Botany 2026. They have a table set up displaying the scientific photo project capturing begonia anatomy and also information about the American Begonia Society.

What is Botany 2026? “This annual meeting of six leading professional botanical societies (the American Bryological and Lichenological Society, the American Fern Society, the American Society of Plant Taxonomists, the International Society of Plant Taxonomy, the Society for Herbarium Curators, and the Botanical Society of America) brings together a diverse mix of researchers, professors, educators, government employees and motivated graduate and undergraduate students, all focused on what’s new in the botanical sciences.”

Searching for Mae Blanton Hybrids.

We need your help!! We are searching for hybrids that were created by Mae Blanton during her many years of being a part of ABS. We do have a few in the Begonia Collection housed at the Fort Worth Botanic Garden, but we would love to find others. The pictures are a list of what we are looking for. We do have ‘Yvonne Wells’, ‘Essie Hunt’, ‘Bob Hamm’, and ‘Flo Belle Moseley’. Please reach out if you have any of these begonias. Thank you!!
