The blooms are winding down for the season. While the dahlias have lots of buds coming, mama nature has her own will. And I will be closed next weekend, so my point is—get some fresh, local flowers this weekend!!

Flowers are medicine. The antidote to a gloomy day or that brush of melancholy you can’t shake. They calm the soul and remind us to have hope. I have spent the year working for this moment, to be overflowing with blooms. This is the crescendo, loves. Don’t miss it.

I love building unexpected fall color palettes. When you pay attention to the mother nature surrounding you, you see that it’s more than just the pumpkin spice and reds that the commercial world packages up for you come fall. The things that make our woods and dunes in Michigan so beautiful are the purple asters, antiqued hydrangeas, deep blue viburnum and elderberry and pokeberry fruits mixed in with lime green and gold and copper foliage.

When you celebrate here along the northern lakeshore, whether it’s the quiet joy of gathering at the dinner table with family or a gala event, might I suggest not randomly picking colors, but instead drawing deeply from the colors of the place and time that you choose to celebrate in?

I live and breathe those things—how the season moves in patterns throughout the year. When you come to me to celebrate life, I translate this beautiful place into each arrangement. The joy and “rightness” of that is why I work so hard to grow every stem myself.
