A nice memory from last year and a great reminder to use your good stuff!
This week I was reminded why I love what I do. ♥
A sweet customer of mine recently gifted me a set of Franciscan Apple dishes and serving pieces she no longer used, hoping I could find them a new home. They didn’t sell at my Seasons Mercantile pop-ups, so before packing them away, I decided to try listing them on Facebook Marketplace.
A young woman messaged asking if the six dinner plates and two platters were still available. They were, so I offered to meet her at our pop-up location while I was packing up. When she arrived, I let her know I had found two more plates and would include them at no extra charge.
Her reaction stopped me in my tracks.
She whispered, “What a blessing,” and her eyes filled with tears. She apologized for becoming emotional and then shared that Franciscan Apple was her grandmother’s pattern. She grew up eating meals on Franciscan Apple in her grandmother’s home. Her grandmother has passed, and she planned to surprise her mom by serving Thanksgiving dinner on them. And then she began to cry.
I gave her a hug and offered her a few extra pieces, free of charge. She didn’t have much storage space but gratefully chose an oval relish dish to add to her new collection.
Moments like this are why I do what I do. Vintage dishes and heirloom pieces hold stories, memories, and love. By giving me these pieces, my customer unknowingly brought joy to someone she’ll probably never meet. ❤️
It’s a beautiful reminder to use your nice things—your dishes, linens, tableware. Fill them with happy moments. Because one day, when your children or grandchildren pull them out, they won’t just see “stuff.” They’ll feel you. They’ll remember the meals made with love, the laughter, the holidays, the warmth.
And those memories… that’s the real treasure. 💕🍎🕊️
