It’s been 25 years since this tragedy redefined the US. I will never forget where I was - working as a Correctional Officer in NC. It was a solemn day at the prison. Inmates and staff alike cried. I still had family in NY but couldn’t reach anyone. The lines were down. It was another 2 days before I heard from my family. They survived but many didn’t. That’s why we remember this day. That’s why we pay our respects to them and their families. That’s why we stand together.
