This recent Kawai baby grand delivery to Bucktown answers the question, "How do I get people to use the other entrance to my kitchen?" 😂

We might need to create a coffee table book showcasing all the unique piano placements we've been a part of. And the cover for the book will be the "piano in the wall" in Frank Lloyd Wright's Oak Park home (see comments). That was a very interesting project for us!

Some Piano Sales Take Minutes. This One Took Months.

This ivory baby grand now has a beautiful new home in Algonquin—but before it could be chosen, its owner first had to find a house that could accommodate her dream piano.

When she first visited us a few months ago, she figured she'd probably end up with a small digital piano because she'd be moving soon. But instead of settling, she decided to wait until she found a home that could fit what she really wanted.

Over the next couple of months, we became comically involved in her real estate adventure:

"What do you think would fit in this living room?"
"Do you think this room is big enough?"
"Do you still have that piano?"

Photos of potential homes started arriving. There were heartbreaks, including losing out on one house she really loved. Through it all, we were right there with her, cheering her on and hoping everything would line up.

Eventually, it did. The right house. The right room. The right piano.

Congratulations on your beautiful new home, and thank you for letting us be a small part of the journey! We hope this piano brings you and your family many decades of music and memories.

If you follow our page, you may remember some recent posts about a trend we've been noticing: customers are once again choosing traditional decorator consoles instead of the shiny black uprights that have dominated for so many years.

We don't always get photos of our pianos after they're delivered, so today we're sharing this one from our showroom before it found its new home. The reason? The buyer said something pretty hilarious.

The couple who purchased it was young, hip, and—if we're being honest—not who we would have expected to fall in love with a traditional decorator console. As we were talking about how we've been scratching our heads over this growing trend, the wife smiled and said:

"It's called Grandma Chic... and it's definitely a thing."

Apparently, we were the last to know. Well... count us in.

Most manufacturers don't even make these anymore, but as the only piano store in the region with a full restoration shop, we love bringing these beautiful furniture-style pianos back to life so they look, play, and sound like new again.

And here's the interesting part: since this piano sold, we've delivered half a dozen more just like it. So we guess it's official.

"Grandma Chic" is definitely a thing.

Saying goodbye to six more pianos today.

Fortunately, we have a great partner who takes many of them, keeping them out of the landfill and giving usable parts a second life whenever possible.

A lot of people see so many free pianos online and assume it means fewer people are interested in learning to play. That really isn't the case. Parents still want their children to learn music, and the piano remains one of the most popular instruments to start with.

In fact, people are almost always amazed to hear how many new & used pianos we sell. The interest in buying a piano...and buying from a reputable dealer, remains very strong.

But the reality is that many older pianos simply reach a point where the cost of moving, repairing, and restoring them exceeds their market value. That's why there are so many free ones. We often have free ones too, because a piano may still be playable, but if it costs more to move, tune and fix than it's worth, it has found the end of the road.

That's one of the unfortunate realities of our industry. While it remains uneasy for us to see any piano discarded, we're grateful to have a resource that helps keep as many as possible out of the landfill.

Yet another in a series of traditional, furniture-style consoles being sold and delivered into area homes. This time it's an American-made Charles Walter piano, and after our restoration, this 40+ year old Colonial-style cherry console looked the same as it did in when it left the factory.

The family had a premium grand in their last home before moving to Chicagoland, but they needed a high-quality upright for this home, so they traded in their grand for this piano that checked all the boxes!
