ReUse Systems, Inc. is excited to unveil a new logo and tagline that reflect who we are and where we’re headed. At the heart of our mission is a simple idea: quality items with life left in them should be reused, not buried in a landfill.

Our goal is to reduce landfill waste by creating new opportunities for furniture, building materials, household goods, and other useful items. We are working toward opening a reuse center in Geneva that will serve Ontario County and the greater Finger Lakes region, making it easier for individuals, businesses, and organizations to give good materials a second life.

Our new logo was designed by Rochester designer Claire Marziotti, who captured the spirit of reuse and renewal in a fresh, approachable design. Our communications committee developed the new tagline to express our mission in a few memorable words: Reclaim Repair Repurpose!

This new look marks an exciting chapter for ReUse Systems as we work to build a more resourceful and sustainable community, one reusable item at a time.

A recent analysis of 236 pounds of refuse put in the Town of Geneva, NY’s trash compactor found 65.7 pounds of food waste and 7.76 pounds of yard waste and other organics. That means 31% of this landfill bound waste could have been diverted. Here’s how:

The Town of Geneva will give Town Residents a free kitchen bucket to deposit daily food waste; just ask the station attendant at the Town's Transfer Station at 32 White Springs Road for one.

This bucket can be taken to the Town’s station Wednesdays and Saturdays and dumped in the food waste toter.

Want to try backyard composting? The Town will provide a kit at half the retail price, up to $50.00, and give you tips on how to turn food waste into food for trees and shrubs. Call 315-789-3922 to order with your name, address and phone number, or email [email protected].

Yard waste can be dropped off at the Town’s station Wednesdays and Saturdays.

A new audit from state Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli’s office found significant gaps in the Department of Environmental Conservation’s oversight of recyclables handling and recovery facilities, including missing reports, questionable data, inconsistent inspections and limited enforcement. Auditors warned those weaknesses could prevent the state from accurately measuring how much waste is diverted from landfills — a key part of New York’s broader climate and waste-reduction strategy.
The solid waste sector accounts for about 12% of statewide greenhouse gas emissions. DEC estimates at least 80% of material currently disposed of has some monetary value, either as material capable of becoming another product or through economic activity associated with recycling.
