Underestimated
This is the term I literally woke up to today. Underestimated.
Immediately my heart when to the boy’s little bowl of two fishes and five loaves.
John 6:5-11
New International Version
5 When Jesus looked up and saw a great crowd coming toward him, he said to Philip, “Where shall we buy bread for these people to eat?” 6 He asked this only to test him, for he already had in mind what he was going to do.
7 Philip answered him, “It would take more than half a year’s wages[a] to buy enough bread for each one to have a bite!”
8 Another of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, spoke up, 9 “Here is a boy with five small barley loaves and two small fish, but how far will they go among so many?”
10 Jesus said, “Have the people sit down.” There was plenty of grass in that place, and they sat down (about five thousand men were there). 11 Jesus then took the loaves, gave thanks, and distributed to those who were seated as much as they wanted. He did the same with the fish.
I am most certain someone in the crowd thought, “what good would this do when there were so many.” But it says they gave thanks.
Then I thought of the young boy David with a stone and his sling, up against the Giant. You know the story. All else were frightened, no one would face him even with fanciest weapons. Then can a simple shepherd boy. I am most certain something in the crowd thought, “What is he doing? He is a Shepard with no fighting training.” A stone, what good would that do?
Rahab followed suit in my thoughts as I pondered a Canaanite pr******te, which defied her King and save her family because of her faith. No one suspected her because of her reputation. I am certain no one gave thought to her protecting anyone with her line of work and lack of public faith. Her reputation publicly covered her faith in her God. After all, she was just a pr******te.
Lastly my heart went to young virgin Mary, mother of Jesus. I am most certain there were some serious doubters in the crowd as they judged her pregnancy. No one would believe the angel story much less believe that she was to be the Mother of our precious Jesus.
There is times in my life where I underestimate people, actions, strength, character, knowledge. I have underestimated my own self and worthiness. There is times where I underestimate my God and I know I am not alone in that statement.
Why would God use me to share his word?
Why would anyone listen to me if I did share his word?
I am not a Bible scholar, nor did I go to college or seminary. I am not equip to do ministry. I am not smart enough. I am not churchy enough. I have a past of sin.
These are all normal thoughts. Underestimated.
But then God……….
Uses the unexpected. Giving strength to the underestimated.
Give us witness to miracles, making our underestimated faith stronger.
Makes his Word come alive to show us so much more, removing the doubts of underestimation.
He uses the useless. He can and Will use every aspect of our lives IF we trust him.
Think about your actions. You can help fulfill someone journey just by your actions. God can use you. Sometimes its not about us.
Underestimated.
Don’t underestimate yourself.
Don’t underestimate your God.
