Banned Books Week kicks off next week, and our banned books display has been sparking great conversations! 🚫📚️ The books that are being banned are critical stories and offer takes on real issues, so it has been a privilege to highlight these titles within our community.

On October 8th at 6 PM 🗓️ we are turning the act of reading into a visible, peaceful protest against censorship by hosting a FREE silent read-in after hours at the bookstore. Every attendee will receive a FREE audiobook from Libro.fm, along with Banned Books Week goodies on a first come, first serve basis.

Our goal for this event is simple, to fill the shop with silent, reading bodies in a powerful display of unity for intellectual freedom. Similarly to our Silent Book Clubs, there is no assigned reading, but feel free to bring a banned or challenged title to read. All readers are welcome (e-books, audiobooks, textbooks, comic books... it's bring your own book!) So RSVP using the link in our bio, spots are limited! We hope to see you there ❤️‍🔥

This summer, we asked our community to design bookmarks and we had so much fun looking through everyone's entries! The creativity was boundless and everyone's ideas brought a smile to our faces, especially with our three winners, Zenna, Zoe, and Julianna. We're working on getting these printed so these whimsical bookmarks can find a home in your latest read. Thank you for making this such a joyous experience! We love you, Milwaukie ❤️

Hey cuties, guess what... Romance Book Club is back at Spoke & Word Books! Join us on Tuesday, October 27th for the next installment of B.K. Borison's Ghosted series, Grim Tidings 🥀 This spooky yet simmering enemies-to-lovers tale is perfect for fall and has become a favorite here at the shop.

This story centers around Darcy, a Grim Reaper, who is tired of death and Gabriel, a Guardian Angel who doesn't tolerate threats. Determined to outrun her designation as the villain, Darcy decides she won't be dragging her next assignment to the underworld. She'll be saving him instead. Unfortunately for Darcy, there's a complication in her plan. As a Guardian Angel, Gabriel can't trust a Grim Reaper. But when he realizes Darcy is not as she seems, he must decide if he can trust his growing feelings or hold on to his long-standing grudge. Magic doesn't come without consequences, though.

Register at the Events link in our bio: tickets are free if you buy the book from us, or $7 if you bring your own copy.

We hope you'll join us at the Department of Hauntings & Spirits! 👻
