Warwick Furnace Farm

A family-owned Certified Naturally Grown lavender farm in rural Chester County, PA. Everything we produce is all-natural and made on the farm.

We grow, harvest and distill lavender on our historic farm to produce a line of artisanal, all-natural home and beauty products, handcrafted on site in small batches. Our Lavender is harvested, distilled and formulated on site into small batch essential oils, lavender floral mists in a variety of scents, soothing lavender salves, balancing floral toner, calming botanical bath soak, and dried flora

l creations like eye pillows, lavender wands, bundles, and sachets. Our plants are Certified Naturally Grown without herbicides, pesticides or synthetic chemicals; using only natural and organic soil amendments.

Hidcote, Lavandula angustifolia, is one of our favorite English cultivars, sought out for its deep violet hue and its lovely light floral flavor when used to accent food.

Four weeks and one day to go until the semiquincentennial history festival on September 19, and the list of things yet to be done has taken on a rather enormous length. There is, for instance, a barn to clear.

Thankfully, the lavender aromatherapy is keeping us calm. So, with a deep breath, we carry on preparing and arranging….

Four weeks. Surely that is plenty of time….

The farm store is open today and tomorrow from 11 to 3 PM, this evening we will be with Craft & Mercantile in Weatherstone and on Saturday morning, we will be at Rittenhouse Rittenhouse Square Farmers’ Market farmers market!

Today, the production room is devoted to filling our Lavender Floral Elixir rollers, in preparation for the lively season of gatherings ahead. A little aromatherapy, distilled from the fields to carry with you.

The Farm Store is open today, Thursday through Saturday, 11–3. Tomorrow, you will find us at the Craft & Mercantile Market at Weatherstone, and Saturday at the Rittenhouse Square Farmers’ Market Farmers’ Market.

Come sample the floral elixir, a small and transportable ritual of lavender, made to bring a moment of composure wherever the day may take you.

Valley Way Road will be closed and Warwick Furnace Road will be closed to through traffic from the intersection of Dampman Road to the intersection of County Park Road.

On September 19, Warwick Township will commemorate America’s 250th anniversary with a day-long celebration at Warwick Furnace, one of Pennsylvania’s significant Revolutionary-era industrial sites. Established in 1737 by Anna Nutt & Co., Warwick Furnace was among the earliest ironworks in colonial Pennsylvania. During the American Revolution, the furnace supplied cannon, ammunition, and other iron goods essential to the patriot cause.

A little time travel, in preparation for the upcoming festival on September 19.

We made a special visit to our friends at Pottsgrove Manor the beautifully preserved Potts house museum with a connection to Warwick Furnace. The visit served a few purposes: gathering historical details for the upcoming 250th Semiquincentennial celebration and exhibition in the gallery, and studying period clothing for artist-in-residence Victoria Naftal, whose colonial-era inspired puppets will be exhibited later this fall.

Among the treasures displayed at Pottsgrove Manor are the Warwick Furnace bell, on loan from Independence NHP , Warwick Furnace firebacks, and a wonderful early map with the sweetest illustration. For Victoria’s project, we were especially interested in the garments, looking closely at the details and construction. And of course Dolly Rosen is always interested in the kitchen!

Encountering these objects in person offers such a glimpse into the material world of the people who lived here so many years ago.

And September 19 is shaping up to be a very special day.

We’ll be celebrating the Semiquincentennial with Warwick township with a full day of historic programming, reenactors, demonstrations, music, food, and more... We’ll also be bringing some of our lavender to Pottsgrove Manor for their event that same day. (The two sites are close enough that you can easily make a day of it)

Our stone barn is the oldest of the three, here is after and before images of its exterior restoration. The roof was replaced, the failing overhang shortened and reinforced, all the stonework repaired, and stucco removed from some walls to unify the original masonry. A larger dormer was added to the caretaker’s apartment, along with new access stairs leading into the main barn, all under the thoughtful guidance of historic expert John Milner Architects, Inc. and beautifully executed with Bill Schumacher and Precise Buildings

Every decision was made with the building’s history in mind while ensuring it can continue serving the farm for years to come. Stay tuned for the transformation of the interior.

The Farm Store is open Thursday through Saturday from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm. While you’re here, cast your vote for your favorite cultivar of lavender essential oil to help choose our limited edition elixir. Every visit supports the continued restoration and preservation of Warwick Furnace Farm.

The sky was filled with color by a double rainbow stretched across the harvested lavender fields last evening…

The flowers welcomed over 1400 guests this lavender season, and after distilling nearly 4,000 pounds of lavender in 57 small batch distillations, the plants will rest now for another year.

The season may be over, but this week in the farm store guests will get to smell essential oil batches from different varieties of lavender and cast a vote for your favorite to become a limited edition single cultivar elixir.

The farm store is open Thursday to Saturday, 11-3 pm this week. We hope you’ll stop by and cast your vote.

A rather curious visitor wandered into the garden.

The fluffy floof is here for the weekend with e m m a • m i e r o p to attend our Artist in Residence, Victoria Naftal’s talk on insect sculpture and puppetry today.
