Procrastination worked out just fine! I got up extra early and was on the road by 7ish. First stop was at Artichoke Annie's Antique Mall in Columbia, MO. I don’t believe I have ever left there empty handed. Today was no exception!
I’ve arrived at my retreat and already working on cutting out pieces to make another batch of Featherweight Sleeves!
Here a question for you…would you rather have a sleeve made from sewing themed fabric or feedsacks????
I’ll post a picture in case you aren’t sure what a sleeve is.

Well, I do have my clothes packed. And I have SOME of my sewing stuff packed for a retreat. But right now I’m giving my back a needed rest before I try to cross the finish line.
Hoping for a stop at Artichoke Annie’s tomorrow on my way to a new destination for me. Since I’m already a bit of a nut, let’s see what a pecan festival has to offer this weekend!!

About the time I start thinking with my brain that it’s time to “let go” of part of my collection of embroidery and feedsacks, my heart says “WHOA!!!!!”
I guess I’m just not ready quite yet…💔

This is why letting go is hard. Because stuff isn’t just stuff in our hearts. Stuff is the moment someone said hello or goodbye. It’s a pair of shoes we never thought we could afford or decades of photos that remind us that we had a life. Stuff is dozens of report cards and yearbooks and it’s also 49 coffee cups (even though we always use our favorite one).

All of that is true about stuff in our hearts AND there is a possibility for fuller lives, less stress, moving with more ease, more clarity about what matters, more time to engage in what you discover matters to you, more presence and connection with the people you love, better sleep, space for creativity and room to take care of yourself.

And even better news ... there is a place in between ALL stuff and NO stuff that will allow you to not only shift your focus from defining who you are by what you own but also, to enjoy your favorite things. It’s your simplicity, your home, your life. You make the rules.

Knowing that your heart may be holding on a little too tightly, be gentle with yourself. Go easy, take tiny steps, and lots of breaks as you work towards a more spacious, relaxed life.

I have gathered quite a lot of hankies over the last many years. I had never given much thought to what a wide variety of hankies there are in this world! Cotton, linen, silk, and nylon!
There are beautiful all over prints in both vivid and subdued colors. And OH. THE. TRIMS!!!!
A friend recently gifted me a bag full of hankies with lovely trims attached. She knew I’d love them and use them. 🥰
One of my favorite trims is tatting. It has always mesmerized me! But I also adore finely crocheted edges and the detail they incorporate.
Thought I’d share a sampling of both types of edges.
What is your fave? Crochet or tatted?? Do you have either of these skills???

Oh heck, a quilt show deserves its own post!!! Especially since it’s going on for more than just the one day of the Red Barn Festival!! They always have beautiful quilts to display!

The Hands of Friendship Quilt Guild Exhibit opens Monday, September 14th at the Sue Ross Arts Center. The quilts will be on display from now through October 21st.

Seventeen members of the Hands of Friendship Quilt Guild have forty-eight quilts on display in the Ellebracht and Gaber Galleries at the arts center. A reception with a Meet and Greet with the quilters will be held on Thursday, October 1st from 5:30-6:30. The public is invited.

The Sue Ross Arts Center is open weekdays 11 am to 4 pm and Saturdays 10 am to 2 pm except for Saturday, September 19th. The Arts center will be open from 9 am to 4 pm during the Fifty Second Red Barn Arts and Crafts Festival on the 19th.

There is no charge to visit the exhibit. Visitors can vote on their favorite quilt(s) and the quilter whose quilt receives the most votes will receive a "People's Choice" award. Voting will end on October 20th.
