This was mine. The Norrland Hat by Sara Burch combines stranded color work and cables!
It definitely took a little effort to perfect that tension, but it was so worth it!

Can’t believe I’ve had this gorgeous alpaca in my fleece room for over 3 years and not used it!!
Just washed a sample so I can do some test blends and spins for a new yarn line.
Any blend suggestions? What would make you happy? How would you use it?

How I protect Corey (31 yrs) in Summer:
Oodles of bug spray
Fly mask as a sun shade for his cataracts (and bugs!)
Diaper cream on the sensitive, white parts of his nose and mouth. Diaper cream has a higher amount of zinc oxide (the block in most sun blocks) than most sunscreens and is much more resistant to being rubbed off.
Along with plenty of fresh water and access to shade, he’s good to go!

Busted!!
I knew something was going on, when all the sheep had their heads up and looking in the same direction. They all slowly shifted to watch the edge of the field where their livestock guardian dog, Merlin, was outside the fence checking the perimeter of the farm. He sometimes finds a way out if he’s concerned.
Minutes later I saw him shimmying back under the fence, threat taken care of!
He doesn’t do this often and usually just sits at the gate and waits for me to let him back in. He’s not being naughty, just thorough!

Don’t you wish you didn’t have to re-apply eyeliner every time??
But seriously, a pretty face isn’t essential for a great livestock guardian dog, it’s more important to have a calm temperament, respect for his sheep and his shepherd and good obedience training.
The basis for this is great, healthy LGD parents and a careful, well- planned start in life. If you are looking for a livestock guardian do your homework. Find a breed that suits your animals and farm, research breeders and ask them lots of questions. A good breeder appreciates thoughtful questions, they want their precious pups to go to the best possible homes.
We hit the jackpot with Tristan, he’s fitted right into our flock and is so smart, he’s a joy to train (okay, I’m a little biased!).
We visited this weekend and got to have hugs with his mom and brother. What an awesome bunch of dogs! Hopefully there’ll be another litter later this Summer, I can highly recommend you check into them, if you are looking for a LGD!

Warning! Not for the squeamish!
Pizzle Rot (inflammation and infection of the prepuce) occurs in male sheep and goats, more commonly when neutered, and usually only when fed high protein diets.
This year I found my first case of PR ever, probably caused by the unusually wet Spring and lush growth of grass.
Fortunately I caught it early and am treating it by removing all fleece from the area, daily cleaning and application of antibiotic ointment, clean/dry bedding and addition of ammonium chloride to the diet (to reduce the pH of the urine).
No other sheep are showing any signs of PR.
If in doubt, check with your vet!
