🐝 Telling the Bees 🐝

Old Appalachian beekeepers used to say you should always tell the bees important family news.

A death.

A birth.

A marriage.

A child leaving home.

The belief was simple: if you failed to tell the bees, they might abandon the hive.

Today, it sounds like little more than folklore. But the tradition reveals something important about mountain life.

The bees weren’t viewed as equipment.

They weren’t livestock.

They were part of the family.

For generations, Appalachian families depended on their bees for honey, beeswax, medicine, and pollination. The bond became so strong that many people treated the hive almost like another member of the household.

Whether the old stories were true or not, they remind us of something we’ve largely forgotten in modern life:

WHY WE STARTED...

After getting deeper into beekeeping here in Appalachia, one thing became very clear:

Our area is seriously underserved when it comes to quality beekeeping equipment, education, and support.

Too many local stores carry low-grade equipment that simply doesn’t hold up long term, and too many new beekeepers are forced to either settle for substandard supplies or order blindly online without guidance.

That’s part of why Appalachia Apiary Supply was created.
Our goal is simple:�Provide dependable, professional-quality beekeeping equipment and build a trusted Appalachian-centered apiary supply company rooted in stewardship, education, and real-world beekeeping experience.
