The Davies Steel concept was developed by the late Dean Freytag as an industry for his South Ridge Lines layout. The name Davies was Dean’s wife Anne’s maiden name. The South Ridge Lines Railroad delivered the raw materials for the steel making process and picked up finished materials and byproducts. The steel mill was located along the railroads mainline in Iron City, Ohio. The South Ridges Line was one of four railroads that was part of the Cardinal System which was formed so the railroads could coordinate their railroad traffic.

Today we continue the Art of Model Railroading.

Following the rapid sellout of our Tangent 86' CLE boxcar, we’re proud to bring the Cincinnati & Lake Erie back into the Home Shops lineup — this time on Rapido’s museum‑grade coil car platform.

The modern CLE is a railroad reborn from mystery. What began as a forgotten estate find — an orphaned logo with no surviving history — became a full revival through imagination, redrawn artwork, and a creative partnership between two modelers. Together, they expanded the CLE into a modern bridge‑line linking the Georgia Road and the CUT, a railroad with heritage in its name and contemporary purpose in its operations.

This coil car celebrates that journey: rediscovery, collaboration, and the creative force that drives this hobby forward.
