Got sent an oldie, but still a goodie, Fox 40 from a friendly customer in California to service. It arrived over the weekend and I'll get it back out today to them so they can ride it fully and finely freshened.

Some o-rings came in the mail for replenishing my stock and some odd-ball Fox tools because Fox does everything the hard way...or the make money way 🤔

I have an old RP2 shock coming in the mail from Florida to service also. Apparently Fox said they can't service them anymore, so the owner reached out to me and of course I'm happy and able to do it.

Me: "Hey Fox, aren't you the ones that made that old RP2 shock?? Silly Fox...I'll do it for you...hold my gluten free cinnamon roll..."

Lastly, shoutout to my Knipex dynamic duo. They never quit and are always where I left them last...

Just an fyi to anyone thinking of buying a cheap replacement front fork axle from Amazon etc...

I had a Fox 40 come in for a service and I noticed some play in the dropout with the axle in place. The pinch bolts were torqued but the axle was rattling around on the drive side. I measured the axle and found the drive side was only 21.66mm instead of 22mm like a stock axle. So it was too small to be crimped by the dropout. Looking on Amazon, I found the same exact axle for under 20$. I have no idea if all cheap, from China type axles are like this, but this is not even usable, so a total waste of $.

Replacing this junk with a nice Burgtec axle 👌

Soap...

(I know, I know it's a Fox shock in the picture but this works on any brand...apparently it's a tip from an Ohlins manual somewhere)

I've posted about this before but it always amazes me how well this works for adding clamping power for removing or installing shafts in shocks and forks 💪

Especially for coated shock bodies, you really don't want anything spinning or moving. The coatings on the these are very easily marred or scratched and adding a coating of soap (after cleaning the clamp and shaft) helps keep the shaft from twisting in the clamp.

I learned this from a guy here on the fb groups a while ago and if I could remember who it was, I'd shake his digital hand...

Had a current gen Fox X2 on the bench today getting a full service. Here's the specific-to-this-shock tools needed to get it done right. And of course, Knipex 👍

Had this fork come in with a decently long and very shallow wear spot from a zip tie on the inside of the stanchion. Did my best to fill it and polish it away. It'll be interesting see how long it lasts over time as it will be going through the wiper and upper bushing on most of the travel cycles.
